Hormone Questions

Post by jdurfeeathome »

Hello All,

I have some questions regarding hormones.

Number 1
Yesterday I saw a client who had her pituitary gland completely removed 30
years ago due to progressive noncancerous hypertrophy that was causing severe
head pain. Consequently she takes a thyroid supplement and for her age, mid
60's, she really looks quite well. Her medical condition is closely monitored
by doctors and she had had few significant problems. She recently had a CAT
scan because they thought maybe the gland regenerated but it had not.
Here's the question. After 30 years of no growth hormone how is it that she
regenerates tissue? Isn't HGH required for even simple tissue repair? She has
had at least one recent surgery. What compensation mechanism is at work
here?

Number 2
Another lady I saw yesterday developed sever eye problems about three weeks
ago. She is hyperthyroid and has that typical bug eyed look and has been on
synthroid about 10 years. She is 26. Her current eye problem consists of an
inability to turn her right eye normally. She has lost muscular control which
causes her to see double unless she makes a concentrated effort to position
her head just so or covers the affected eye. She has had CAT scans and other
tests but they cannot find a cause. About a week and a half before this
happened her husband announced their divorce.

She thinks it is because that her doctor changed her medication from
synthroid a few weeks ago to luvoxyl (spell?)

So what are the possibilities that this new condition is related to thyroid
problems?

BTW, she received gels. for the double vision with affected right eye, grief,
fright, sudden exciting news, and concurrent back discomforts.

Thanks,
Barbara

Barbara,

I will try to assist you with Question 1. As we are all aware, the entire
body forms from an initial single cell. Many organs then differentiate from
the increasing number of cells during fetal growth. As the cells
differentiate, they separate into their respective organ groups. During this
process, it is highly likely that not every cell will wind up in its proper
organ. Meaning that a few cells of one gland may be left in the tissue of
another gland. As a result, when a gland is removed, the ectopic cells which
are in some other location can pick up some slack. I don't know for certain
that this is the case in pituitary development but it is with other glands,
e.g. ovaries, so it only seems logical.
