UK Homeopaths will be under further attack if Optum takes over.

3 Things You Should Know About Cameron & Tories
Optum is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group (UHG) which is also the parent of UnitedHealthcare (UHC), the largest single health insurer in the USA. It was created in 1977, as UnitedHealthCare Corporation (it was renamed in 1998). In 1979, it introduced the first network-based health plan for senior citizens. In 1984, it became a publicly traded company and like many of the other private health companies currently involved in the NHS free for all
Elizabeth Edwards, the now deceased healthcare activist and wife of ex senator John Edwards), on America’s The Daily Show, and site CEO McGuire’s gigantic golden parachute (reputed to be over $1bn) in support of her argument for a public alternative to commercial insurance.
She stressed the importance of restoring competition in health insurance markets noting that at one point
“the President of UnitedHealth made so much money, that one of every $700 that was spent in this country on health care went to pay him”.

The move indicates the extent of the changes sweeping the NHS as a result of the Health and Social Care Act in 2012
It also highlights the opportunities for private sector investment in the service despite political sensitivity.

The in depth report Optum did in 2013 for the Australian NHMRC to TRASH homeopathy

Conclusion
There is a paucity of good-quality studies of sufficient size that examine the effectiveness of homeopathy as a treatment for any clinical condition in humans. The available evidence is not compelling and
fails to demonstrate that homeopathy is an effective treatment for any of the reported clinical conditions in humans.
What Optum says they're doing for the UK:

* We analyse vast amounts of data to uncover newer and smarter insights on delivering better health care more efficiently.
With access to health care experts working across the globe and key investments in technology and innovation, Optum helps make healthier happen for everyone.
Improve the quality of care for patients and drive cost efficiencies.

I'm not impressed with Optum in the USA! At last year's "health fair", they determined that my 6 foot tall, 190 lb husband had a BMI of 36. When he protested, they said "We are the experts" . He insisted on talking to a supervisor who had to get out a calculator to figure out that his BMI was actually 27. Her excuse? "Oh, we're new at this!"

Good on your husband!!!
I disbelieve in "experts". People need to think for themselves and decide for themselves who their experts are. We can't do all of the thinking, observing, and experimenting ourselves. That would be going back to the Stone Age. But we can think for ourselves and decide who for us is an expert.

Which does not and cannot take into account muscularity. Extremely buff people are going to look bad. I am sort of on the muscular side, so BMI sort of doesn't give me an accurate appraisal.

I prefer waist to height ratio, a buff person has a smaller waist, and anyone with a big waist for their height, is in deep trouble with their health.
