OT: homemade soaps and stuff

Post by Label GMO Florida »

if anyone makes there own soaps and lip balms and such, where is the best place to purchase products?
i am specifically looking for lip balm tubes, lye and titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. I am sure there are other things I will need like essential oils but not sure of everything I want.
I made my first lip balms with coconut oil and some of my bee's wax and I love it. So I want to make some for Christmas presents so if anyone knows a good place for prices let me know
Thanks
Vicki

Frankly I would not tell you if I knew:-)
Who needs lye for soap?

Why not use soap glycerin (aka melt-and-pour) instead?
Safer, and you do not have to "hope" all the lye turns to glycerin.
Brambleberry has supplies on line.

Do you know how to make shampoo?
I'm having a problem with coconut ingredients in shampoos irritating my scalp and occasionally causing sores.
Many mainstream and health store products (Aubrey, Jason, Avalon) use cocamide, coca-??, etc.
Some boast they don't use sodium laurel sulfate, are organic but the coconut is worse for me.
Kirks Coco Castile soap irritates my skin, has cocamide and coconut oil

i make my own cold process soap. i use it as shampoo and thus everything is food grade stuff except for the lye of course! it's very mild. i use coconut oil from the market and olive oil. easy peasy.
