Again, back to maintaining causes only, if a vegan diet does not provide all that is necessary, that has to be addressed with diet. I found that the book mentioned earlier as well as the research Dr. Weston Price did worth considering. Note the quote from the pages of his foundation.
"One of the purposes of Price’s expedition to the South Seas was to find, if possible “plants or fruits which together, without the use of animal products, were capable of providing all of the requirements of the body for growth and for maintenance of good health and a high state of physical efficiency.” 12 What he found was a population that put great value on animal foods–wild pig and seafood–even groups living inland on some of the larger islands. Even the agricultural tribes in Africa consumed insects and small fish–and these groups were not as robust as the tribes that hunted, fished or kept herds.
“It is significant,” said Price, “that I have as yet found no group that was building and maintaining good bodies exclusively on plant foods. A number of groups are endeavoring to do so with marked evidence of failure.”13
Also, mentioned earlier in the piece when describing the need for nutrient dense foods,
"Price explained the situation in clear scientific terms: “Most people need from 2000 to 3000 calories a day, according to the nature of their physical activities. Similarly, we need two grams of phosphorus and one and one-half grams of calcium a day in our food in order to keep up the body’s daily requirements. Our problem, then, is to get enough of the minerals and vitamins without exceeding our limit in calories. . .
“It is not wise to fill the limited space with foods that are not doing our bodies any particular good. You would be interested to know that while you would have to eat 7 1/2 pounds of potatoes or 11 pounds of beets or 9 1/2 pounds of carrots to get the daily phosphorus requirement, all of which would provide too high a number of calories, you would obtain as much phosphorus from 1 pound of lentils. This would also provide the calcium. You would also supply the entire day’s requirement of minerals from 0.8 pounds of fish or 0.6 pounds of cheese. . . .3
Much more information on his research addresses this issue.
And again the maintaining cause cannot be divided off but rather addressed or the problem will never be fixed.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Gilmore

Totally agree with youMary Ann, but don't forget the 21st century Dr. Price by the name of Dr. Masterjohn! I forget his first name. This guy has debunked the China Study and every other reason why people think it's a good thing to eat a vegan diet. He is a hero in my world who speaks from knowledge, wisdom and is young and alive. Of course I totally love Dr. Price and all he did for us so we can get back to the Earth and take care of our soil, our bees, our farms and animals and our TEETH! By the way... the fragaria is working miracles on Walter's gums and teeth. Mine too. I need to share that with Dr. Masterjohn and see what he says... you can't deny proof in pictures.
I am off to do a phone banking session for a YES vote on CO amendment 105 to LABEL IT! They are working hard to beat us.... I asked one of the volunteers today who called me what the polls look like. She said, "We don't do polls. We don't have the money to do them. I don't look at their polling because I don't want to be discouraged."

Good for you working not he Label It referendum in CO.
Amazing how little money the movement has particularly compared to the many millions of Monsatin and company
and they can only squeak a scant win out of the votes. Of course there is an absent effort to check the voting itself
as the voting has become such a manipulated process in the US. The number of people being disenfranchised is
frightening in itself.
Good luck with it

Ah **&^
I couldn't get in to the session. They use go to meeting software and my OLD Mac was out of support with gtm software about 2 months ago... I didn't know they were using gtm to train us or I wouldn't have signed up. Let's ask the technology gods to send me a new computer very soon. Sigh.
I was all excited to do it too.
You're right. My world is just upside down... yesterday I read that Argentina has invited all big oil companies to come in and frack their country. Bibi is opening up settlements in the territory set for the Palestinian state! My own governor has opened up this state and committed acts that I believe are illegal to keep allow them to keep fracking CO, and the bee colonies in CO are dying from the neonics. A few days ago the EPA sent out a notice on the neonics, but the bee activists have no confidence that it means anything since it will greatly impact Monsanto's agenda. People must know what they are doing, but nobody is thinking of anything but the profits or maintaining the status quo. There must be more we can do but at times it just feels hopeless to win against these giant corporations.
Shot down before I even started.

Re: vegan
There are several phone banks ongoing. Look online or call some local groups. I am sure there will a phone for you to use.
I just committed to work on a phone bank locally for a somewhat progressive voice for the State senate even tho she is not
my rep.
Have you checked out Move.org ? They often do phone banks where you can do it from your home?

Re: vegan
Unfortunately, Mary Ann, one of the brain washes that all vegans receive is that Weston A. Price is the devil and they must hate him (Price that is). So, it is unlikely that you will have convinced any vegan with your comment below, despite the reasoning and logic that it demonstrates. Hopefully we can help a few people not fall into the vegan thought-prison.

Re: vegan
I have heard and read some of Dr. Masterjohn.
I notice that there was no advertisement, AFAIK, about amendment 105. I have already voted yes on it. It is sort of a no brainer. I have difficult understanding why anyone would vote no on it.
