You probably would do well to start with Clarke. There are a few others you can consult on HomeoInt, for which there is a small annual fee. You can browse there and see a lot, and then if you like buy the membership for more.
Look for relatively cheap Indian paperback versions of many books. Homeopathy is bigtime in India, and they love information.
And yes, ask your homeopath, respectfully, your questions about remedies. But also try to suspend your curiosity about your own to a degree, as reading too much about them will confuse your reporting of results. Homeopaths generally try to avoid picking their own remedies, as when one reads, every remedy sounds right in some respect:)
I got really nice results last year on a nosode I totally refused to read for a long time. However, the progress did not stop once I broke down and read it:)

I still think you are going at this backwards. Need to get a strong foundation in the laws and principles first and dosing and more.

If you want a good, accurate, and comprehensive Materia Medica you might consider Vermeullens Concordant.
If you just want to learn about remedies Kent's Lectures Materia Medica will probably teach you the most interesting information, tat was taken from the proving symptoms.
If you are studying to learn about homeopathy you do need a program to teach you about sx grading and the way a homeopath views disease.

Here in India, grad students in Homeopathy memorize Allen's keynotes in their first semester. With this first step, every other thing becomes easy. Their big reference book is Boericke. I also agree on this.
In addition, I will suggest TS Iyer's beginner's guide which provides simple guidelines for beginners for manageable diseases. Boger's MM with that good repertory is useful. Tyler's drug pictures, Kent Lectures, and Hering's Guiding Symptoms come next. Hahnemann's MM Pura and Chronic Diseases are also a must. Clarke's MM can then be bought.
And who will forget that master Lilienthal ?
The bottom line is no MM study is possible from a single book. You need many.

About learning homeopathy…
It's best to begin by working with acute prescribing, rather than chronic. There are a number of really nice books for learning (and doing) that, and they include mini-materia medicae, covering the selection of remedies covered in the book. It's best to start with "bite-sized" pieces, and getting a feel for how remedies are chosen on a more "local" basis (acute), and become clear about the differences between acute and chronic prescribing.
There are a number of very nice books about it; browse through, and also a LOT of on-line material available. However, in my experience, it's easy to get confused rather than enlightened by it, if you don't begin in an appropriate way (e.g. at the start rather than the middle; and with digestible pieces.
One website to explore is
http://www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org.
I've been out of touch for some time, but their monthly membership magazine covers a wide range of material, including things of use and interest for a wide range of folks. Look through the links.
And specifically for browsing books (I recommend you get a couple of books on homeopathic home prescribing):
www.homeopathic.com
(https://www.homeopathic.com/cms-global/ ... goryId=518 for his selection of introductory level books, including home care guides)
The two home prescribing books that I am familiar with (and used VERY happily for many years) are:
https://www.homeopathic.com/cms-global/ ... ductId=447 Homeopathic Medicine at Home, by Panos and Heimlich, and
https://www.homeopathic.com/cms-global/ ... ductId=892
Other sites that come to mind are:
www.minimum.com -- which I see has been acquired by Emryss, and is now www.nature-reveals.com
www.wholehealthnow.com
