Re: kelp?
The Japanese eat some sort of seaweed on a regular basis, and they live longer than any other nation in the world. I put 1/2 a sheet of seaweed in my smoothie just about every day. I am still getting better.
As far as supplements, although I take a lot of pills, I do try to avoid them as much as possible. Since seaweed is sort of like veggies, I just blend them into my smoothie and am happy that I do. I cover a lot of micro-nutrients that way.

Re: kelp?
Essentially is is a blender drink made from fresh fruit and often green vegetables.
A basic "green" smoothie:
1 part dark green leaves...eg dandelion
2 parts fruit ....eg mango...you need this much fruit compared to leaves, to taste good
3. Yogurt or milk or juice etc to make it liquid enough to pour
Blend this together in the food processor, juicer etc.
If you use a food processor the fibrous part is kept as part of the drink.
You can add all kinds of other stuff, such as eggs, nori, nut butters, ice cream, etc.
It helps to make it as above first to get the feel for it. Then adjust to YOUR taste.
And it works best if your leaves and fruit chunks are frozen. Then you do not need to include ice cubes.

Re: kelp?
Thanks Irene.
It is then , essentially a milk shake with your other additives.
Do you think mixing fruits with milk is sound ? My ancients in India say it is unadvisable. I think even American Natural Hygene (Fit For Life) also says a similar thing.
Theory apart, I would like to know your personal report on the usage and also to whom you prescribe.

Re: kelp?
Not really, as the milk is a lesser ingredient, only just enough to liquify.
It is mainly fruit and greens.
Very much so.
Our digestive systems handle the milk in the stomach and the fruit in the intestines.
I have a VERY compromised digestive system from chroinc catabolic illness, but my health has improved greatly since I started adding a gaily smoothie.
I do not know why. There is no scientific reason;
FIt for life is a bpook good for kindlingl The people who wrote it are full of invented nonsense ideas that are completely invalid in the well designed human body. THey clearly did not attend biology class3s in juior school. I bought that book hoping to find somethgni valid or useful, there is nothg. It is all wild suppositio taken to extreme with no foundation in anythig the body actualkly does.
For example they make a big deal out of the fact that protein is digested by acid and fruit is digested by alkalil SO they put them both in a flask, and say, gee whiz, they cancel out.
In the body it does not work that way. Our Creator is no fool. Protein is digested first, in the stomach, with acid. THEN it goes to the small intestine where the acid is neutralized and alkali is used for the harder digestion, which is plants. That is why we hae such a LONG intestine - becasue plants are very involved to digest. (It is also why cats have a short intestine as they do not even have the liver enzymes for plant. Plats are toxic to them. By contrast animals like cows who eat onluy plants, have serveal specisal stomachs to help them handle it AND long intestines.)
It's not theory, we know how the body works (just the writers of fit for life fiction do not)
Sadly any ignoramus can write a book, there is no requirement for expertise. It is up to us, the readers, to look for the qualifications of the author in the subject they are writing about.
I got this disease in 1998 and have tried to fond a way to improve my health by food. It is the first time I have found a way to actually reverse some of the catabolism, with these smoothies.
I do not prescribe.
But I share what I know freely.
Namaste,
Irene

Re: kelp?
I have heard the "no milk with fruit" admonition before. However, I have found that yogurt and kefir and perhaps other fermented milk products don't behave like milk, so I stopped worrying about it upon my first delicious gulp. (:->)

A very thoughtful reply from you and thank you.
I felt my mom had damaged my liver as a boy since she gave me a regular tumbler of milk at bedtime. By the time my mom finished work and prepared the milk I would have dozed off, and she would half wake me up, and put the tumbler in mouth. I would simply gulp it down. At age thirteen I got severe allergic cough and somehow suppressed by medication. But my mother's milk giving habit continued till my thirtieth year and my mother passed the baton to my wife.
My stopping the milk at that period did little to stop the degradation of my liver ( I think) since, my bowel had become very sticky at that point and is gradually gaining its hardness over a period ( I am now fifty). I still do not have a regular appetite in morning and I have reduced my intake to two meals per day. One at 11 'o clock and the other at seven in evening. I fill up with a tender coconut in morning and evening .
I have totally removed milk from my diet. I think this only has given me my present feeling of well being despite eating two meals. I have gained weight and look muscular too. We had cows at home in my childhood and my father bought them especially for us children. The milk intolerance did me in.
