Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Dear Minutus group,

Hello! I have been hearing more and more about this condition, "Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome" or "PCOS". Has anyone treated someone with this diagnosed condition? It is a condition where there are so many cysts growing on/around the ovaries that ovulation is interrupted and the entire endocrine cycle is out of balance. This causes weight gain, facial hair, increased blood sugar, infertility, etc. http://www.soulcysters.com/pcos411.htm

I am also curious if it is a North American thing... perhaps influences by diet or environmental toxins, etc. But that's my old way of thinking, it would more reasonable to consider miasms (Sycotic? Cancer?), or even the long term influence of birth control pills (Melissa Assilem suggest a new miasm from them). Anyway, I would love to hear what other homeopaths think about this increasingly common condition in women - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom.

PS: I have tried to research this a little bit. These are some of the rubrics I have found that cover some of the pathology....
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - TUMORS - Ovaries - cysts
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - MENSES - absent
FEMALE GENITALIA/SEX - STERILITY
FACE - HAIR - growth of hair - women; in
HEAD - HAIR - baldness... etc.

PCOS is a syndrome that affects "PSYCHONEUROENDOCRINOIMMUNE" system. The ovarian cysts are not a reason for anovulation it is a consequence of anovulation. Some hormonal imbalance cause ovaries to be unable to release ovule and these follicles grow until they look like a cyst.

I prescribed puls., con., nat-m., sep.,calc., lyc. and got good results. According to my PCOS patients I think it can arise from psora and rarely sycosis.

On the other hand, thinking about diseases which are influencing by diet or environmental toxins, etc. is Hahnemann's method. The last point, they (orthodox medicine) use oral contraceptive pills treating PCOS and these pills can worsen diabetes.

Dear Natasha

Of course their hirsutism(excess hair in face, etc.) is curable, but it takes time. At first, their periods begin to be regulated, then each time they remove their hair, their hairs will grow thinner and after some month they will be free from this symptom. Don't expect the hair to fall out after first prescription. In my experience, hirsutism in PCOS cases of psorosycotic miasma is more obstinate than hirsutism of psoric cases.

cases. I seem to be having a spate of such cases among teens and young
adults in the past year and find them resistent to treatment.
Any info on the reasons behind the increase in cases would also be much
appreciated.
The symptoms and signs are
Amenorrea or infrequent menses which may alternate with protracted
scanty menses resulting in infertility because of anovulation
Male distibution of hair
Weight gain and
Acne.

Dear Suriya, I have had a few cases of these - all needing very different
remedies, Apis Sulphur, Lachesis, Thuja. You can read the sulphur case on my
website (she has since had a child). There is no real reason why these cases
should be resistant to homeopathic treatment.

That of cause is providing they are ovulating with regular periods but some have amenorrhoea!! Seriously have you managed to stop the hirsutism using this regime?

Thanks for that - very interesting. I don't have any current patients to try it on!!! I wonder if it would help the Hirsutism of those whose menses have returned. as I know I would have a very willing candidate. She is ovulating far more frequently these days.

I have been following this discussion of hormonal imbalance with great interest.
i had one woman who had sufferred from amenorrhea for a number of years. it
began during a very bad marriage, after she had 2 children. she was treated
constitutionally with sepia 30c which regulated the menses and it has been no
problem since, as i have been led to believe. however, she suffers from hirsuitism
which causes her a lot of emotional discomfort. there has been no treatment in
about 2-3 years. i am wondering if it would be appropriate, based on the ongoing
discussion to consider administering Foll in a low potency in a case such as this.
i know i am not offerring any of the details of the case at the moment

Re hirsuitism
P. Banerji has had success treating this with Aurum met 200 every three days
Sepia 200 has also been helpful
He has experimented also with Catharanthus 6 and found it to act successfully in some cases

He has also had success with amenorrhea using Aurum met 200 as well as the accumulation of abdominal fat accompanying sterility in females

Re Sterility/amenorrhea
He has also done trials with Aurum mur nat 4x where there is no obvious reason for it - I suppose presuming ovarian hypofunction for unknown reason
