Red yeast rice

Post by Leilanae »

About 6 months ago, I googled Red yeast rice.
Briefly, from memory................
A pharmaceudical company isolated an ingredient (monacolin) in Red rice yeast and pattented it.
Red rice yeast contains chemicals (monacolin) that are similar to prescription statin medications, therefore, any red yeast rice products that contain this chemical (monacolin), above a certain amount, have been removed from the market. (In the States)

Would Guggul, of the family Burseraceae, be helpful?

I recall that Red yeast rice was made illegal a few years back
But continue to see it sold.

Your post about amount of content is important. Do you know the
level of content that is needed for it to be medicinal?

Hi t,

No. Only "trace amounts" are OTC now.

On another note, red yeast rice is commonly used in Asian cuisines.
After fermentation, it can be ground and used as a colorful addition to vegetables and meat.

Thanx. It is infuriating how every living form can be commoditized, patented and turned
into a major bottom line all at the expense of real health

It is beta sitosterols that count in there, but you can get them in rice bran and you get concentrated extract of sterols and sterolins in the right ratio in Moducare :-)
So don't give up.
