Dear Sue,

It is not a matter of silly or rational. It is just a question of using
the correct Hahnemannian terminology. What is meant by a split-dose is
clearly defined in the Chronic Diseases in 1838. Hahnemann wrote:

dynamization] after being dissolved in a quality of water, can and must be
taken in small parts.....

A split-dose is a preparation where one or two small poppy seed size
pills (what would be used in one dose) is dissolved in a medicinal solution
that is given in "small parts" over a longer period of time. The potency of
every administration is raised by succussions just prior to administration
so the patient never receives the exact same potency twice in succession.
In a split-dose one pill (1 dose) is split many times into smaller amounts
of liquid that are given to the patient. In a multiple dose the pills or
drops are repeated each time the dose is administered. These preparations
are not identical, use a different case management strategies, and have a
different affect on the vital force. Using the correct terminology helps
homoeopaths keep their standards clear and communicate their research to
their colleagues. For this reason, we make the distinction between a
multiple dose and a split-dose of the medicinal solution.
