Fish oil
Fish oil
I just got a call from someone whose mother is going into beginning
alzheimers, age 89, and the father suddenly got cancer and only expected to
live a few more weeks. We talked about fish oils and he said they had been
taking fish oils for the last 20 or more years. I asked him to find out the
name of what they had been taking. This is disheartening to hear this as I
bought my first fish oil recently.

Re: Fish oil
Hello Carol,
You are trying to make one therapy fit all! That does not work, ever!
Some people most certainly do have problems that need 'fish oils', or perhaps phosphitidal choline and phosphitidal serine and lecithin, especially people who have been on those cholesterol lowering drugs.
Maybe there is an oxygen deficit due to hardening of the arteries or narrowing.
You also might have the aluminum connection.
Or, quite simply I have known people who got dementia because they just DID NOT want to remember things.
Use it or lose it! Goes for the brain too, our brain size goes up and down depending on what we are studying or learning.
Homeopathy has some demential protocals: they work pretty well, but again one size does not fit all.
individualize your case.
Warmly, Maria

Re: Fish oil
Dear Carol,
There is absolutely, positively nothing to worry about. No one ever said that a person will never get alzheimers if they take fish oil. And no one ever said that a person will live forever if they take fish oil. There is nothing magical about fish oil other than the fact that most people's diets are deficient and out-of-balance with regard to fats. But it seems unlikely that someone would not benefit from eating fish oil or cod liver oil, unless they really do live a hunter-gatherer existence.
Make sure that you get more than a tablespoon of coconut oil every day also.
If you want to get stridently aggressive about staying healthy, check out urine therapy. Part of it is the diet, which will seem right-on once you discover what urine really is and how diet affects the taste/smell of urine. Urine is filtration to keep most of the items in your blood stream in BALANCE. Urine is NOT waste. This is why when you drink a lot of water you want to pee. Urine is also homeopathic, but you don't need to worry about the correct remedy, which is a big and expensive issue with Homeopathy.
Sincerely,
Roger Bird

As Maria, says.
Also did mother get vaccines?
What meds is she on
What other exposures?
Many reasons

Hard to say what was happening. Their dosage may not have been
high enough. Other nutrients may be out of balance preventing absorption of
the oil. Vit D3, Vit C could be deficient along with K2 or Mag.
Stresses increasing in their lives on some level requiring more nutritional support.

Re: Fish oil
Why the inverted commas? We do not use them for "butter" or other fats?
Fish oil is just fat from fish. It is not a lot of good to build health unless taken in fair quantity with a high dose of Vit E. They work together. The fish oil's antioxidants (DHA and EPA) open gates which otherwise would result in inflammation occurring, they relax blood vessels and cell walls/membranes, but need VIt E to then effect repairs and actual healing. Together there can be a nice improvement in blood vessel wall elasticity to lower blood pressure and also intraglomerular pressure in the kidneys, along with repair of same if Vit E is plentiful.
The higher the rate of inflammation in the body, the hiigher the amount of antioxidant is needed. I use 6 caps of fish oil a day wit 1000 IU of Vit E a day for example. Other antioxidants also are helpfl to raise the total anti-inflammatory load, to offset any inadvisable inflammatory foods, for a net anti-inflammatory effect - the more the better.
But fish oil is not some kind of substitute for statins. (It can help raise HDL but statins are taken to lower LDL not to raise HDL). Better options instead of statins are Moducare (plant cholesterol), which is preferentially absorbed over animal cholesterol and which has the effect of lowering the kind of cholesterol that is not so good for us as is produced internally, such as by central obesity metabolic process. Food based cholesterol, such as in egg, is beneficial cholesterol, but which statins mess with most - and which we need for the brain to function well.
So statins will accellerate brain Dysfunction. Horrid dangerous junk IMO.
Prevention of Alzheimers has far more nutritional needs than just he ratio of inflamamtory to anti-inflamamtory diet items. All nutritents especially nerve nutrients (magnesium and B6 etc) need to be adequate.
My favorite case of dementia that came my way was that of a cat iin South Africa. She was about 17 yrs old when she lost her memory for where things were. She cry - esp at night - pitifully as she coud not find her food, litter or owner. So her owner would get out of bed and show her again where things were, and she'd be okay a while, not enough for much sleep by owner. Her diet was changed to be more nutritionally complete. Her simillimum was Bar-c, and it took a couple weeks to get to the stage where she got through the night without crying becasue she was "lost", and after a month later she was doing just fine again. She passed on at age 22 at which time the symptoms returned though not badly, she got "lost" once in a while.
Namaste,
Irene

Re: Fish oil
Anyway, it is coconut oil that is getting all of the good press concerning Alzheimers. I have not read that fish oil is getting good press regarding Alzheimers.
