One reference from Google and also a comment in the Time article says papaya leaf juice is a cure.
Since isn't easily available, apple juice with lemon helps.
Plus various remedies upto 26 for various symptoms and stages.

Looks like another vaccine will be coming for it, though multiple strains are discussed complicating the vaccine production.
Seems one can go from getting over it relatively unscathed to severe complications.

I wouldn't rely on papaya leaf juice for treating dengue fever. There are approximately 25 remedies that cover it. Dengue fever is also called "bone-break fever" because of its bone pains, so a major remedy would be Eupatorium perf.

Dengue Fever in Brazil by Laurie DeFrain Stemm
It was the beginning of a wonderful vacation in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil. My 2 boys, husband and I were having so much fun swimming on the beach in the crystal blue waves all afternoon. By about sunset we began watching the colors of the day drift into the sea. Right about then, my youngest son of 8 years old, came stumbling up doubled over in pain. He collapsed into my arms crying, “Mommy my stomach hurts really bad.” He was holding his head and saying everything in his body hurt, even his eyes. I put my hand on his forehead and I felt him burning up with fever. I was shocked! How could anyone get so sick in just a couple of hours?
I couldn’t imagine what this could possibly be, so we started asking a few locals if it was sunstroke. It turned out to be something much worse. We were told he had symptoms of Dengue Fever, a virus caused by a disease spread by mosquitoes. I quickly researched DF on the Internet and found out there are 2 types of Dengue Fever. Type 1 is non-lethal and Type 2 is fatal with orthodox medicine not having any medicine for either type.
So after panicking about which type it was, it got worse, because we found out that both types have the same symptoms for the first 3 days and there is basically no treatment for either. For DF1 the CDC advised bed rest, fluids, and medication to reduce fever, such as acetaminophen and aspirin should be avoided. For DF2 they recommended to race him to the hospital emergency room.
Both Dengue Fever 1 & 2 types start out having;

Sudden onset of symptoms in 50% of the cases. * Horrible headache with intense pain in the forehead and behind the eyes. * Pain in eyes; it hurts to move the eyes * Swelling and achiness in all the joints of the body. Known as "breakbone" fever, this symptom is worse than all your achy flu symptoms put together. It hurts to move. Your back will ache and there is a chilliness accompanying it. * A high, stunning abrupt fever, face becomes flushed with severe, attacking back pain (lumbar region) and joint pain * High fever (up to 104 degrees). This fever will be a "saddleback" kind of fever. It will be there for 5-6 days, then abate for 3-4 days, and then come back for 5-6 days. There may be profuse sweating. * Muscles will be extremely sore and ache. * A red rash (sometimes misdiagnosed as measles) may break out all over 6 to 12 hours before the onset of the fever. * Lack of appetite, Lymph glands become enlarged. * Skin: the rash may appear between day 3 and 5, which will appear slightly raised, red patches and if pressured with finger, the redness will disappear. Usually appears on torso first, and then spreads to extremities and chest. * Diarrhea.
Type 2 Dengue Fever is much more serious and the symptoms are the same as DF1 for the initial 3 to 4 days * After that, there is a sharp, shocking change. Fever skyrockets suddenly, without warning and can reach 107 degrees. * There is physical shock and collapse. * Hemorrhage under the skin (bruises, bleeding) everywhere. Bleeding from the nose, from the gums, blood in the urine and in the vomit and stools (black and tar-like).* The skin is clammy, the extremities, cold. As hemorrhaging begins, the skin has blue and red spots over it known as "petechiae'.* The face become a mottled blue color (cyanosis).* Blood pressure drops rapidly and may not be detectable.
Thank goodness I had been learning how to use homeopathy in my NCH study group for years and knew there was an option. From my training I knew I could go online and google “dengue fever homeopathy.” Up came a site showing keynotes for Bryonia, Rhus tox and Eupatorium for symptoms of dengue fever. After quickly reading them, it was obvious to me that my son was exhibiting the same symptoms I was reading under Eupatorium.
EUPATORIUM PERFOLATUM will probably be the major remedy of choice. It comes from the herb, Thoroughwort and is known as "Bone-Set." It was used in the 1800 and 1900's by homeopaths when Dengue became epidemic during those time periods.

* MENTAL/EMOTIONAL: Person feels as if they are losing their minds. Anxious feeling, along with moaning. Restless and cannot sit or lie still, although they wish they could (every movement hurts them).
* HEAD: Throbbing pain, as if a cap of metal were pressed over the entire skull, pushing downward. Vertigo with falling to the left. Top and rear of head painful. Headache may be periodical--every 3rd and 7th day. Upon lying down, the rear of the skull (occipital region) feels very heavy and there's a weighted feeling to it.
* EYES: soreness of the eyeballs. Worse: light of any kind. Even the lids feel sore.
* MOUTH: tongue has a thick yellow coat. Cracks or soreness at corners of mouth. Very thirsty for cold liquids. Bitter taste in mouth.
* STOMACH: Liver region sore to touch. Vomit may contain bile, green color. Vomiting preceeded by being very thirsty. Hiccups. Doesn't want any tight clothing around the waist or stomach region.
* STOOL: diarrhea, green, watery with cramps.
* RESPIRATORY: Sneezing. Hoarseness with cough, worse: morning, and a sore chest. Great soreness of muscles and bones of chest. Cough is relieved by getting down on hands and knees. Cough worse from 2am to 4am. Worse breathing in. Unable to lie on left side. Worse lying on back. Cough with heat attended by soreness in throat and bronchial region. Face will be flushed with tears in eyes from coughing so much.
* FEVER: Sweating relieves all symptoms except the headache. Chills between 9pm and 9pm, preceded by a great thirst for liquids. Soreness and aching of the bones attend the fever.
* EXTREMITIES: Ache in lumbar region of back. Chills will start in low back and move upward. Arms and wrists ache. Knees and calves painful and stiff. Muscles stiff, generally and person is unable to move or bend very much. Back may have a trembling sensation to it during the fever portion. Arms and legs feel as if they have been badly bruised and severely beaten.
Fortunately, I had my homeopathic travel kit and Eupatorium 30c was in it. I gave him the first dose immediately at about 8pm and he fell right asleep. I was so scared watching him in pain. He was really sick by now, so I took him straight to bed and slept with him all night. He was listless with a fever of 104 degrees and was deliriously screaming out. He was so restless throughout the whole night. When he woke moaning and aching so badly I’d give him another dose and he’d fall asleep again. Unfortunately, the remedy wouldn’t last for more than an hour or so and the only potency I had was the 30c.
The night continued on like this. Wild high fever, screaming in pain from his joints, thrashing in bed hallucinating then another dose of the remedy and he’d fall fast asleep. Taking this as a good sign with him falling asleep within a couple minutes of taking the remedy, I felt Eupatorium was still the right one. Regardless, with no one around in this little hotel room and the nearest hospital hours away, all I could do was pray, watch him toss and turn and then give him another dose whenever I felt he was getting worse again. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep much but sometime in the early morning the fever broke and he was calm. Feeling like we made it through the worst of it, I let him sleep a bit while I went out for a cup of tea. By 10am he walked out as if nothing happened and said “I’m hungry.”
I was really surprised realizing he had moved thru the whole illness in about 12 hours. I have witnessed several times the effectiveness of homeopathy with my children thru the years but this illness had the most dramatic results. Some say he must have not had Dengue Fever at all because it never goes away that fast. Although this is true for using any orthodox treatment, I witnessed all the symptoms and all the pain of Dengue Fever that night. I feel very comfortable giving homeopathy all the credit for helping his little body fight this horrible DF virus. What a blessing it is to have options that the medical industry doesn’t have. It made me feel so empowered to be able to do something to help my son that I wanted to continue learning more about homeopathy.
We took it easy the rest of the day but overall my son was back to normal and we continued our magical vacation in Brazil. Needless to say whether we travel in the states or around the world, we will NEVER travel without our Homeopathic Travel Kit.
