Fibromyalgia and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Post by infonewsbabe »

I wondered what your thoughts would be on the homeopathic treatments
for these two conditions? I practice a plan of avoidance for the IgE
mediated allergies I have. I eat organic foods when ever possible. I
take a wide range of supplements, and herbs.

Hello!

A healthy diet is the good but as you are seeking further assistance, I think you understand that diet is not curative for many conditions.

In homeopathy the "name" of the disease does not explain to us your symptoms. In order for homeopathy to be applied in your case, we need to know more about your symptoms... For example, we would need you to describe your symptoms of FM and MCS - pains: locations; what makes it better; what makes it worse; when it started; etc. Also, other symptoms related to your general health is required, including your emotional health - fears, anxiety, stressors, grief, etc. Hopefully someone here can provide you a little guidance or direct you to a Homeopath in your area.

Sincerely,
Natasha

Dear Homoeo Student,
Kindly go through APHORISM 6 and 17 of Organon which concludes that clinical signs/ physicial signs / symptoms observed by physicians or objective symptoms are more important for the totality of the symptoms for prescribing. But it dosent mean that name of the disease (Diagnosis) is not necessary. A group of symptoms can be named as one (Disease). The clinical diagnosis is equally important to homoeo-symptoms for prescribing. the symptoms sometimes are so confusing/ common as such these can be categorized only by going for clinical diagnosis. For you information here is what Medical Dict. (Says)
Fibromyalgia, long-lasting or chronic pain, stiffness, and tenderness in muscles, joints, and tendons. Unlike similar muscle and joint pain disorders, popularly called rheumatic disorders, fibromyalgia pain occurs without swelling. Fibromyalgia is characterized by the presence of sensitive areas, called tender points, commonly found in the elbows, knees, hips, and back of the head. Touching these tender points may trigger severe discomfort and widespread pain and muscle spasm. Other symptoms include difficulty sleeping, fatigue, poor concentration, and headaches. People with fibromyalgia are also more likely to have irritable bowel syndrome, a chronic disorder that causes abdominal cramping and discomfort. Found in all age groups and in both sexes, the condition primarily affects women aged between 20 and 40 years.

You see if you understand the disease the common symptoms are already there. But you have to pinpoint your rubrics according to these symptoms for reaching to the desired Prescription.

My (NSH) is you must understand "practice of medicne" as well as the homoeopathic MM, organon and repertoy for becomming a successful future Homoeopath and not a Quack!

My FMS symptoms began after being tossed off a horse. I injured my
neck, sustained a concussion, and broke my left arm in two places. My
pain is in my scalenes, upper traps, esp on the left side. I have the
majority of pain in my upper back. But the body is covered by trigger
points. So other parts of me have hurt. I have experienced swelling
in my joints that no internist could explain. So as far as the FMS
goes, and right at this point I have pain in the upper trap area on
my back. I have both trigger point pain, and speading pain. I have
not been able to sleep 8 hours straight, and wake up every 4 hours,
or less. Then I have fatigue. I have IBS, migraines.

My constitutional type is a combination of Lycopodium-phos.

I have considered taking for pain, Arnica, but I am leary of this
since Arnica is toxic. I use the Arnica gel topically, on my neck and
upper back. I bought some Calcarea carbonica 30c for muscle soreness.
I'd like to find Cimicifuga for tight neck muscles, and Ranunculus
bulbosus for pain in upper back muscles. I don't know if I can find
these things from The Vitamin Shoppe. I bought the Cal. carbonica
locally. I also bought some Allercetin Allergy & Sinus to see if I
can't do something about my traditional allergies. I have already
been on Prednisone twice this year. The side effects of steroids are
undesirable.

The MCS-I practice a plan of avoidance. I take prescription drugs,
and use inhalers for reactive airway disease.

Lets see, my Christian faith so far has stopped any depression. My
physical threapist says I'm the only FMS patient she has who is not
depressed. I'm an assertive person, and I personally advocate for
myself. I don't fear public speaking, and I give outdoor
education/hunter education safety talks to large groups of people. I
do have a fear of heights & enclosed places. I get menstrual migraine
headaches, and migraine headaches before thunder storms. My father
died in 1999 of bone marrow cancer, but I'm not particularly botherd
by his death. He was very abusive. But that same year I lost a
Christian friend to uterine cancer. What is a constant stressor, is
my Mother's dementia. She forgets to turn off the stove, or burner.
Or she forgets to lock the doors. I'm not able to go away for a
weekend. I met a Christian man last year who is the joy of my life,
and recently we said our vows.

I would not suggest taking remedies on such limited ideas e.g. arnica for
pain, cimic for muscles, etc. I also would not be using arnica topically. So
far, Carc. is covering the problem fairly well, but I would like to see
modalities, food preferences/aversions, weather agg/amel, etc. Also, what
motivates you to give these talks?

be well

The foods I consume are limited. I have many food allergies: ALL
legumes, nuts, peanuts, wheat & gluten, citrus, bananas, apples,
shellfish, Cod, Tuna, sulfites, food dyes, aspartame, and MSG.

I eat meat. I eat low glycemic veggies. I'm on an insulin resistance
modified diet where I do not eat the foods which I have allergies to.
I also hunt, fish, and grow some of my food. I grow medicinal herbs.
I enjoy talking about hunter safety, which is a state mandated
program. I also teach gun safety.

I like the winter time more than Spring, or Fall. The air is better
in the Winter time. The colder it is, the better I like it. I don't
like high places, or enclosed spaces.

These (and previous) are interesting, but not characterizing for the purpose
of selecting a homeopathic remedy.

The most important question is:

Where do you live?
Post your city or county, and maybe someone will find a referral to a
practitioner for you.

It is practically impossible to imagine that you could treat yourself
homeopathically, even if you had started learning years ago.

Very difficult to treat oneself for complex chronic disease.

Very difficult to treat your list of symptoms anyhow, even for an
experienced practitioner who has an objective (outside) viewpoint from which
to attempt to assist you.

Worth a try, though!

I'll tell you generally that I live in a rural city in Virginia. My
insurance does not cover alternative therapies, and I can't afford
out of pocket medical expenses.

Maybe it isn't hard to imagine, but people do buy off the shelf
homeopathic remedies in this area. Looks like, I'll have to treat
myself according to symptoms.

I hope you can take this in good spirit-
have you ever heard the saying that a doctor who treats himself has a fool
for a patient?

If you had been studying and practicing homeopathy for 5 or 10 years, you
might be ready to help someone ELSE who has the kind of symptoms you've been
posting about.

A few of us who do have some experience have tried to get this across to
you.
In the long run, it is terribly unlikely that you will do any good by
amateur practice of homeopathy on very complex symptomology ... even less
likely by practicing on yourself.

You might be thinking "it ain't brain surgery" -but I'm telling you: it
might as well be.

There is a very clear and definite risk in a case such as yours.

I suggest that you consider whether you can better afford the very real
potential of complicating your health-challenges by attempting to self
treat.. or diligently searching for some assistance from someone
experienced, who might be willing to barter, or treat you on "sliding
scale."

I don't know if you read the case I posted recently - Terebinthinae / kidney
failure?
I spend many hours on that case, saw her at least a dozen times for brief
followups, fielded another dozen phone calls at least. She paid me a grand
total of under $100. And I'm quite happy about it !

Find a practitioner near you. Ask to be treated within your financial
means. If that practitioner won't treat you, ask for a referral to someone
else.

Contact any of these homeopaths; ask for referral in your area.

Don't worry, Dave, I did take this in good spirit. I'll see if I
can't get a referal to the Doc in Nelson County. My Physical
Therapist has spoken of 'someone' but she couldn't remember who, or
where. So I was glad that you found this information for me. I really
do appreciate it. Driving is a literal pain now, and Charlottsville
is out.
