U.S. - Whole Foods To Accept Monsanto

Post by Sheri Nakken »

This is NEW - this week - not from the past, like I thought at first......................

The title of the article says USDA forced but I see no force described, only collusion and capitulation
Time to boycott Whole Foods - which is hard because many places that is all you have.

Can order much online and find other sources for organic produce and meat - local sources when at all possible.

And also follow through with what it says in the article by signing petition at the end

USDA Forces Whole Foods To Accept Monsanto - I don't think this title is accurate - doesn't look like USDA forced anything

"In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto's Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation's 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America's organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal.

A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market , Organic Valley , and Stonyfield Farm , has decided it's time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto's controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for "coexistence" with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

In a cleverly worded, but profoundly misleading email sent to its customers last week, Whole Foods Market, while proclaiming their support for organics and "seed purity," gave the green light to USDA bureaucrats to approve the "conditional deregulation" of Monsanto's genetically engineered, herbicide-resistant alfalfa. the link to the customer email is no longer there, or it won’t be found!
what I did find, while searching around their site, is their statement about
their commitment to label all GMO containing products by 2018.
they also bray for their working with the non-gmo project.

I could not find anything on Organic Consumers that is new on this issue.
Further, I read an article last week by Jon Rappaport on OCA that was disturbing.
He stated that OCA takes money from Monsanto.
His point was that the Label It movement for GMOs in food is a diversionary
tactic supported by Monsanto et al. Thus, the support by OCA for labelling
foods that are GE is not the progressive stance but the reactionary one.
Monsanto et al support this movement for the simple reason that as long as
they can keep people running in circles on labelling, they are moving forward
with getting more and more GE seeds approved.
Whole Foods claims to support labelling by 2018 which gives Monsanto
5 yrs to get their current list of about 14 seeds to market. Their tactic is to
keep the movement going in expensive circles on small battles while the industry
plans on winning the war. Jeff Smith talks about creating a tipping point with
boycotts and local laws, but Monsanto’s tipping point will be controlling the
seeds of almost every major crop for both animal use, fuel use and direct
human consumption.
I totally agree with Rappaport that our efforts should be on banning GE seeds
and organisms, not labeling.

I prefer the more direct action of blowing away the board of directors with hand grenades, but, of course, I am too old to do such a thing and I couldn't encourage anyone else to do it, but I think that it would be moral, although very illegal.

0.let me warn you if you are in the US. there is a teen ager in jail with $500,000.00 bail
and facing a possible 10 yr jail sentence. he has already been beaten badly in jail.
his crime? participating in an online ‘game’ where the tendency is to be as cruel and
violent as possible online. even knowing there was nothing seriously meant by this and
admonishing the kid, even giving him community service in a battered peoples center—they
chose to use him to intimidate the country while destroying this kids life.

I have looked several times and see nothing on Whole Foods site for the email which seems to be removed from the site.
I also see no reference to GMOs on their site.
Org consumers Association has been cited for taking $$$ from Monsanto. Makes the entire labeling efforts appear bogus.
Gives Monsanto more time to flood the market with even more GE seeds and foods.
Must say increasing suspect of the whole labeling debacle. Our issue is to ban GE products-Period!
