Nystagmus.....

Post by Carol Orr »

I think I've asked about this condition before. A 7 year old boy's eyeballs
have fluttered since birth...or vibrate...back and forth...like a spasm. And
one of his left eye looks up to left side when focusing on something with his
right eye. Doctors have decided to operate on his eyes....taking out the
eyeballs and cutting some muscles...the problem seems to be some muscles are
too lax and others are too tight. The purpose of the operation is so that the
left eye looks straight ahead as he focuses. I heard of another child with
something similar and they have had 6 operations on their eyes. So I'm trying
to think of a remedy for this boy. He is in special ed and named as autistic
though he already reads better than his classmates. I have trouble
understanding what he is saying and he had a test for that with speech
therapist and they said he just isn't articulating his words..that he should
slow down, as he repeated perfectly when she told him individual words. He
interrupts his mother when she is on the phone but in person he plays quietly
near by or even alone in his room. He is very sweet and apparently he talks
to ghosts or spirits but that may be because his mother is heavily into ghosts
and spirits..(led ghost tours locally). I saw him get mad and he was very
angry at a man on the street who had yelled at his friend...and he was telling
us what he would do to that man..and all his muscles were taut and he was
saying how he would punch him in the face. He got red in the face talking
about it. He let a smaller child hit him and never fought back but his mother
says when older siblings wrestle with him..he is very very strong.

The mother had an extremely high fever and strep when she was pregnant and had
1m Belladonna. I gave the boy 30 c belladonna when he was around two or three
because he was biting everyone and he stopped. Mother also was on methadone
during her pregnancy for addiction to oxycotin.I know the mother has talked
about the boy sweating profusely at night while he was sleeping. The mother
has responded to both phos(cured deafness in her ear) and lyco for a
campliobactra infection in her blood stream years before.

Can someone give me some pointers? The operation is not until August...and if
anything can be done to avert this that would be good. I have often thought of
giving him bell again...but never did. Agar looked similar but I haven't
really got the experience to understand what would work on his particular
problem with his eyes.

There are rubrics for this. And the other issues you mentioned. Take the case in totality and use LM potency.
Goodness. The allopaths are frightening!

Nystagmus is a neurological issue. The loci in the brain is affected. Very common in Multiple Sclerosis and a result of the plaques in the brain. Look at those remedies that address the nerves not the eye itself. Arg. nit comes to mind. But remember the totality.

what an interesting case.
one thing that comes to mind nutritionally is coconut oil which is a great brain food. is proving useful in healing alzheimers with
the known plaques and neural damage. the ketogenic diet would be an extension of using the c. oil.
fran sheffield has several articles on treating autism—she has acquired much experience in treating this.
the boy seems to have a strong sense of fairness and empathy for others
and you have a good set of symptoms to work with.
would also look to the constitutional for the mother during pregnancy as well as her
reaction to oxycontin andmethadone. pretty heavy stuff as background for a newborn

On the topic of oils, or essential fatty acids (EFA) the 3-6-9 by Noridc Naturals is good, taken with additional supplementation of Omega 3. Since the brain is 60% made up of EFAs, it is good to take. I found that taking these EFAs beneficial as they helped to stop my focal seizures in
my face, as I'm Epileptic. I think that the ketogenic diet is just a way of adding the fats the brain needs. The boy you speak of is experiencing focal seizures in his eyes, but it sounds like he also has some structural and developmental problems with his eye muscles.

B vitamin complex, and trace minerals are also beneficial for the brain and nerve issues and used by the brain. Macro minerals such as calcium and magnesium are beneficial. Mg relaxes nerves and Ca helps with contractions and other bodily functions. The nervous system benefits from all of these as well as the rest of the body.
Good luck!

Carol,
There appear to be two issues with this boy. There is the nystagmus, which is the oscillation of the eyes in a pendulum-like manner (I've seen it in dogs with vestibular syndrome, but not yet in people). Then there's the strabismus, which is the drifting out of one eye -- and the reason he's having the operation.
Which are you seeking to treat?
Peace,
Dale

aka "EYE - MOVEMENT - pendulum like, from side to side" in the repertory if that helps.
I've seen it in cats with granulomatous inflammation but it can have multiple causes.

Another rubric that comes to mind here is
MIND - INJUSTICE, cannot support - children; in
and/or
MIND - AILMENTS FROM - moral excitement

From Drugs.com: "Methadone may impair your thinking or reactions."
A detox needed?

Namaste,
Irene
