Very good advice! My step mother was scammed a few years ago when she bought 2 gasoline credit cards as a gift for me at a gas station. One of the cards had never been activated. The clerk switched them after swiping them at the cash register. Always test the card by asking the clerk to swipe them through his register before you accept them. Also make sure that the numbers on the cards are sequential if you purchase more than one. Better yet, tell the clerk before you purchase them that you will demand that he proves to you they are properly loaded before you accept them from him/her. Then they know not to mess with you. Also take their picture with your cell phone! Caveat Emptor! Carmi Hazen
