Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
Dear Tanya,
Am pretty sure you can get it online but not in shops. I really rarely sweeten anything except when I am making a tomato sauce or the Dukan diet oat bran muffins (high protein/low GI carb) and xylitol does the job.
Just found this on a website which sells it:_

is stevia banned in the UK? if not, you can mail order it.

Stevia may not be available in its usual forms, but the U.S. company Cargill is now manufacturing "Truvia," which is made from stevia and is available in the U.K. (at least according to their website).
My husband is on a low glycemic diet and I've found The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook handy. Horrible title; good recipes.
Peace,
Dale

Have checked out the website and found:-
but it doesn’t give a date.
On another site I found:_
I will have a look next time I go shopping but I think I would know about it if it was on the shelves!!
I really don’t have problems with my diet, meat , fish, eggs, cheese + veg and fruit with a meal not on its own!! Nuts and protein mixes for snacks!! It’s so well under control that I can get away with a taste of someone else’s dessert if I am eating out!! Never needed a cookbook . I am a very inventive cook as well.
All the best

Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
We have got to be creative in our resource gathering. Many people like to poopoo the Codex alimentarius
saying that it is nothing. The supposed 12/09 deadline came and went and nothing happened. Well, that
is a lie. Much has happened and is happening at a faster clip all over. The Codex mandates are being
implimented step by step in almost every country that signed onto the Codex. They just don't call it that
as they like to hide the global one world govt that the power mongers have been working toward for years.
So glad that you have your resources for stevia.

Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
Dear Rochelle
Only if your diabetes is reversed can you eat the foods a diabetic should not and still have good blood glucose controls.
For example, I now eat biscuits, ice cream, doughnuts, drink fizzy drinks - not frequently I hasten to add as I dont like fizzy
, but I do eat/ drink these just to prove that my diabetes is reversed.
I do eat bananas nearly every day-- upto 5 a day if it is there!
However even after reversal, I always advice patients to eat healthy foods and minimise processed stuff.
Type 2 is NOT an inherited disease as many would have you believe. It is a lifestyle disease and can affect anyone. But if there is a history of diabetes in the family, one is more prone to it, thats all - not inherited.
Both my parents have it but out of my siblings , only I have diabetes.
Even though most people who have type 2 are either over weight or obese, you are right , it does not mean one needs to be, to become diabetic.
Thank you

Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
Soroush,
Since I started Atkins' Dieting in mid-1970's, the only artificial sweeteners then were saccharin and cyclamates, in most sugar-free products and sodas.
Cyclamates were outlawed soon after in the USA, they were superior in taste and for cooking/baking. I can get them from Canada where it is sold under Sugar Twin brand, which in the USA is saccharin. Cyclamates may be allowed again in the USA soon, the concern was cancer. Subsequent testing showing cancer is not an issue. Same concern for saccharin.
While artificial chemicals, these were the best for diabetics and for Atkins Dieting. as they did not cause insulin release. Possibly cyclamates were outlawed to creat a market for....
... Nutrasweet/Aspartame,initially made by Monsanto Corp. It is an brain excitotoxin like MSG and the first time I used it, I became very sick, muscle aches, headache. Much controversy as may have been pushed through US FDA for financial gains, bypassing various scrutiny. Most sugar free products switched to it and I couldn't use them. Even a stick of gum with aspartame gives me a brain ache.
Then came Splenda/Sucralose, which is not liver friendly for me, some products using it actually raise my blood sugar due to my liver detox issues. The company was forced to change their advertising from "It tastes like sugar because it's made from sugar" since it is a chemical, not naturally derivied. This replaced aspartame in many products. I feel strange when eating too much of it and try to avoid it.
Then came Aceslufium K, never had a noticeabloe negative reaction to it, in many products blended with Splenda, rarely used alone in products.
Then introduced were various sugar alcohols, xylitol - billed as good for dental health, maltitol - most common now in sugar free products like ice cream, and blended with others, considered good for diabetics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltitol, erythritol - mixed with stevia in Truvia and other products, considered good for diabetics and dental health http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythritol, lactitol. Each has their reasons for use, primarily to imitate look, feel and sensation of sucrose. Generally, too much sugar alchols brings you out of ketosis and not best for strict Atkins dieting. Also various laxative effects from some with too much use, Sorbitol, used a-lot in commercial baking is reknown for that. So is mannitol. Sugar alcohols can be naturally plant derived or chemically manufactured.
Stevia, I find the herb (green powder) not agreeable but the chemical extract of it (white powder) OK.
Personally, I don't add any sugar replacements to drinks, I like unsweetened ice tea, coffee, etc. When I bake a cheesecake, I use saccahrin, xylitol, cyclamates mostly, sometimes stevia extract, usually blended. Using only saccarhin or cyclamates makes it taste too chemical.
For Thanksgiving, since easy to get fresh cranberries, I've been making lots of cranberry orange relish, a good way to eat tons of raw cranberries, considered a superfood.
Mix cranberries, orange juice and/or zest and/or orange slices, cinnamon, pink himalayan salt or sea salt, lemon juice in blender, no cooking needed, that keeps it raw and vegan.
I like tart so add no to little xylitol or saccharin/cyclamate. For guests, I'll add organic sugar to sweeten it up. Cranberries are also super beneficial on the D'Adamo blood type diet for type B and the lowest in carbs vs pineapple and watemelon also super beneficial.
If I want diet soda, only those from fountains and fast food use saccharin. Bottles, cans use aspartame. So, diet Coke from McDonalds, 7-11, etc. is OK.
Posted here in the past, Agave syrup, is billed as LOW glycemic, but it is refined, like HFCS, and every product I've used that has it raises my blood sugar noticeably.
Unfortunately, in the health food industry, it is replacing brown rice syrup and other sweeteners since it is being marketed as "healthy" the way soy was marketed.
My favorite Rice Dream frozen changed their formula when they went organic and added it, now I can't use it much. Brown rice syrup, while a carb, is derived from a starch, so metabolizes slower causing less blood sugar spikes. Agave acts like HFCS and is becoming another health food scam as it infiltrates various products.

Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
Dear Mohamed,
While not everyone's type 2 diabetes is inherited, mine is.
There is plenty of genetic research showing just how genetic variations affect how severe your type 2 will be. Click on links within this article for more info:
http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14046739.php
I have eaten practically no refined carbs since age 17, glucose tolerance blood tests at that time showed reactive hypoglycemia which now is called PRE-diabetes. That already showed a genetic predisposition. Following a primarily no/low carb Atkins diet for 30 years, living in ketosis much of the time did not stop my inherited diabetes from going full blown in my mid-40's, the usual age "adult onset" diabetes begins. So, while I can eat NO carbs and be in ketosis, my blood sugar would still stay high or go higher. Only metformin drug allows me to get some energy back. This is due to insulin resistance. Metformin also works directly on reducing the liver output of glucose. While I can at times can eat healthy carbs good for me, like brown rice, vegetables, certain fruits due to beneficial effects from using antispsoric homeopathic remedies, meaning I get temporary ameliorations or reversals, they are not yet permanent. As written here earlier, I also need Byetta, a newer injectible, to better control blood sugar. I'm a long way from even properly controlling yet reversing diabetes even though I've been seeing highly regarded homeopaths since 1996.
So, just saying change your diet lifestyle is not the answer for everyone. Diabetes also has to do with energy production, how your mitochondria produce energy, ability to utilize glucose, which involves diet and inheritance along with organ susceptibilities or inherited weaknesses, mine are liver and I've demonstrated on myself how good liver health, detoxes, can lead to lower blood sugars.
I checked your website and the article on the 600 calorie/day diet to reverse diabetes is interesting. Sometimes I feel better not eating and drinking a 45 gram quality protein shake with no carbs called Monster Milk, with various good lipids from healthy oils. I can drink one 120 calorie bottle and feel satisfied and not hungry all day and lower my blood sugar. But how long can one go without eating food is variable. That's not a cure for diabetes, that's just a trick to alleviate it. Personally, drinking not eating where my liver can be bypassed is better for me.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a piece of cherry cheesecake at the market, I had the craving and had to have it, knowing it had all the junk carbs and processed stuff to put me in a sugar coma. I ate it and while I felt my body being challenged, I handled it better than I thought. I can only attribute this to being on the LM remedy. While blood sugar wasn;t great after, it wasn';t as bad as it would usually be. I should add I was in ketosis when I ate the cheesecake which allowed me to get away with it as a brief interlude.. Continuing to eat like this for days would restart the insulin release cascade and it's deleterious effects of eating refined carbs. Still, in the past when doing this I would feel worse than I did, so I attribute that to the LM remedy.
I do hope continued use of homeopathic remedies will help stop progression if not reverse diabetes and allow me to reduce and eliminate drugs needed.
Susan

Re: Stretching an LM (plus diabetes ideas)
Hi Paul,
I'm mixing up terms. I have 2 inherited chronic diseases, one I know is considered in the sycotic miasm based on family history, the other I believe is, but have not been told so. Since the first remedy prescribed years ago was an antimiasmatic sycotic remedy, I guess I'm fully sycotic. Or I was given it because I had/have at least 3 keynote rubrics of the remedy and thus had nothing to do with being anti-miasmatic or not. I don't believe I exhbit any syphillitic on physical or mental. Current LM homeopath says that if I had kept taken that remedy and not stopped after the extreme major aggravation, I may have been cured early on. If all the homeopaths I saw after are truly classical and following H on the miasm theory, why I was not given it again if truly anti-miasmatic is unclear. As unclear to me is when to give the anti-miasmatic remedy and why not to give it especially after years of taking anitpsorics. Is Chronic Diseases the only place where H writes about this and active, latent psora miasms?
When I was taking the current LM remedy in 200C, and previously other antipsorics in 200C there was a clear pattern I saw. I would get a brief one day aggravation and amelioration, first of bipolar, then a day for diabetes ala Hering. Then by the end of 2 weeks I would feel really good for a day as if disease frree while getting hangnaiils, then slowly deteriorate back, sometimes with some lasting improvement. The hangnails were kind of a signal that the main remedy action was coming to an end.
I'm seeing similar but not as clearly distinct with the LM. I did get the hangnails after 2 weeks, but here I'm continuing on vs. with C waiting to take another dose.
Currently, I'm now feeling better, at least today, overall, and even with diabetes symptoms but I've also restarted Byetta which clouds the picture as it helps allopathically.
I will wait awhile and try stopping the Byetta to see if the remedy is actually helping here.
I really don't think this is palliation but need to read up on exactly how it is determined. Since I'm feeling better than I felt in a long time and improving, I have to believe it is the ability to take the LM remedy more often vs. C where I would feel great for a short time then fade after each dose. Did H write why you can't take the 200C daily/more oten but as LM you can?
You are correct in advising me and anyone reading not to self prescribe. I haven't yet, only self adjusting dosing or potency of a current prescribed remedy. This is encouraged by the Dr. Luc trained LM prescribers, to empower you to take charge of your LM remedy and learn how much to succuss and how often to take a dose, when to wait, restart, etc.
You gave me more ideas to ponder and I appreciate the think tank approach.
Best,
Susan
