Hi, Thanos --

Sorry if I seem to have beleaguered you with irrelevancies to what you were asking. Yes, you're right: silicon is in Calc. sil., and it's different from (again, merely a part of) Silicea. That's just one of the things that makes inference as to the properties of Calc. sil so indirect. We do know the properties of the compound Silicea (silicon dioxide, SiO2); we don't know the properties of silicon without oxygen. Even if we did, it wouldn't give us many clues as to the properties of the compound Calc. sil. (calcium silicate, CaSi2O5), a compound of three types of atoms. And even if we knew intimately the properties of the individual atoms calcium, silicon, and oxygen, we would have no clues whatever as to their properties in chemical combination -- as I was attempting to illustrate with my water / hydrogen peroxide (H2O / H2O2) example (the two being composed of the same atoms but having radically different properties).

Cheers!

John
