constipation tip?

Post by Carol Orr »

I'm sure several readers know that I take care of my mother who has alzheimers
or some form of dementia. For ten years...and possibly prior to that she has a
bowel movement about once a week(huge..really huge). If it ever goes longer
than that...I will give her 30c sulfur and sometimes almost immediately..other
times by the next day and problem solved. Sometimes her skins gets a about to
get a bedsore kind of look. I had to deal with that years ago after she was in
nursing home for two weeks..and it took me three months to figure that
out...turned out coffea cleared up the bedsore within 24 hours. I don't try to
treat her dementia. I had bad luck with that years ago when I gave her hyos
and she talked non-stop for 3 days..night and day. A couple of weeks ago she
was twitching on her arms when i got her up. I decided to give her arnica 30c
because she also had that chafed look on her skin. So for the last two weeks
and for the first time in ten years..she has pooped every single day and
sometimes twice. The skin looks the same. I'm baffled and it means more work
for me but i'll accept it. She had been calc carb constitutionally and her
doctor said before he retired that she would always be calc carb but it never
did anything when i gave it to her. I don't know if that means that
constipation has been a part of her nature...but I can't help but think this
could be a good thing. I don't know.

Hi Carol
Sorry to hear about your mom

Sometimes it is from not enough water
Also doses of Sodium Ascorbate, Vitamin C, can help loosen the bowels
if you get close to bowel tolerance - takes some testing

I'll send that info to the list

Hi Carol,

I would think this is surely a good thing! (Assuming there's been no negative change in anything else.) So the two weeks of daily pooping has followed on a single dose of Arn 30? I would say see how long the effect lasts, and whether anything else changes.

While I certainly understand how much extra work this is for you (I too am caring for my mother), I agree with your feeling that this is a good thing. It will change some of the physical signs you have come to recognize over the past 10 years (for example - her skin will likely change in texture and more quickly show dehydration symptoms). Improvement of any of the elimination functions should help her natural detox abilities. You may find her appetite improves. You may also find her need for support supplements increases as she finds a new balance in her system functions. Depending on the root causes of her dementia, you may see improvements – or even have a better sense of her 'case' so that you may wish to again consider treatment (without the hyos reaction :) ).

Warmest wishes for both of you,
Donna

Hi Carol,

I can hardly manage my own bowel movements. Managing someone else's and then having to change diapers. Oh my. Seems like there is always something worse than what bothers me. My deepest sympathies.

I need to have a bowel movement everyday or I wake up at 2 am and can't sleep. If I start feeling a bit constipated, I take magnesium citrate. That give me a very nice bowel movement. But I am careful not to irritate my stomach so I only take it as needed.

I stay away from remedies just because I don't want to confuse my system and distract it from what it is doing with my constitutional treatment. Other people do not seem to have such concerns. So maybe I am too cautious.

Best,
Ellen
