Considering all the adulterated food for pets and the issue of vaccines, I have to ask if this is really normative for this
breed, or the consequence of legal poisoning?

While I certainly appreciate your observation – and totally agree that diet and vaccines are a devastating factor in the lack of health of our current companion population – this particular shedding issue – where the undercoat is entirely 'blown' periodically - appears to have been 'normal' for the breed for the last 50 to 60 years that I can find breeders discussions – and the general consensus is that it has been part of the breed for at least since the mid 18th century.

Well, I needed to ask because they could be aggravating factors which makes these sheddings worse than they need to be.
