some info on nosodes I put together for my online course, Part 2 and thought I'd share this here also
I was always taught that a nosode was like any other remedy - if the symptom picture fits its picture then the remedy should be used, nosode or not. Some actually use the nosode for one of the miasms first if they think someone is in that miasmatic state (I do NOT agree with this)
More below
But Dr. Luc has more concerns about nosodes and feels they are very deep working and long acting and mostly recommends they are only used at certain times:

from a short review by Ernest Roberrst on Achieving and Maintaining the Simillimum book by Dr. Luc de Schepper
(available here or here http://www.drluc.com/books-main.asp
Chapter 11 gives an introduction to rrosodes, their origin and development and shows how chronic mtercurrent remedies can be used to treat 'miasmatic blocks, suppression and obstacles to cure', 'that an indicated remedy is always preferred over the nosode', and that " nosodes are truly curative only when they are administered, based on the totality of the characteristic symptoms like any other remedy. He also discusses how to use nosodes as chronic intercurrents, how to identify and remove a blockage, and when a nosode is appropriate. The casual use of nosodes confuses many cases, and Dr Luc explains how a nosode prescribed after two or three failed remedies often cures because it was the indicated remedy from the start, and that blockage theory is often used as an easy way out.
He gives ten situations when a nosode may be correctly prescribed, and I was pleased to see that these carefully argued cases correspond to the pages on this subject in my own textbook (Homoeopathy Principles and Practice, 2001). There is a valuable description of Carcinosm with a comparison with Medorrhinum, then a similar description of Streptococcinum. with several excellent illustrative cases.

"But as usual, the general rule is that when the remedy is clear, a nosode, or bowel nosode in this case, should never have precedence. It is only after the indicated remedy does not work (in spite of using 5th and 6th edition prescribing) that one should think about possible use of nosodes. "
OR start with a nosode IF there are not enough symptoms to go on to find a remedy - we can determine the miasmatic state but the body is too overwhelmed and not producing enough symptoms to go on.
Info here in his interview - starting at about 3 minutes 17 seconds - although this may be a little hard to understand
And here he answers a question about should you use an isode - like the dpt remedy or similar vaccine remedy
its a little hard to understand - because of the sound quality and also Dr. Luc's accent but thought I'd share it
more here and in his books

Homeopathic Nsodes are very deep acting, powerful remedies made from diseased tissues. They should be used sparingly and dosed according to the advanced watery dosing method. Nosodes are used to move a case forward if other well prescribed remedies have failed to act or if there is a miasmatic block.
Nosodes should NOT be used by any unsupervised client at any time or by a homeopath who is not professionally trained and experience in their use.
And this from David Little - http://www.simillimum.com/education/lit ... icle01.php
so there is a bit for you to chew on.
Your son needs to fit the symptom picture of syphilinum - not just that he has autism or the homeopath thinks your child is exhibiting the syphilitic miasm #1 and then take into account all of the above
Hope that helps
