evaluation of aggravations: was Concerns about potency

Post by Ellen Madono »

Hi Shannon,

I have been reading Vilthoukas's Levels of Health the sequel to The Science of Homeopathy. Here are some reflecting using Grant Bentely's HFA and TCM as spring boards. I got maybe a little off your subject line, but I think my reply is related to your original question.

I would think according to his explanation, people who do not have acutes, lack fevers.. are the types who cannot aggravate. I am noticing that not aggravating can be a very delicate matter of diagnosis. The weak are aggravating but we are not noticing because we lack diagnostic techinques.

I have been working with an acupuncturist and seeing my own homeopathic patients 2 times a month so that I can learn her diagnostic techniques. Her readings of pulse etc are very sensitive (my teacher is a medical intuitive which also helps but she uses methods to show the patient what is going on.) It is clear that weak patients who I thought that they were not aggravating are actually getting tired out by too much of the remedy. More intervals increases the healing curve. I am using Grant Benteley's 30c daily and for the strong patient and there is no problem. Indeed healing is accelerated. But for the weak who have no fevers or significant acutes in their history, the aggravations are really weak. Aggravations can be seen with TCM diagnostic methods.

Some easy to feel aggravations are stress expressed as pain when you press on the upper right side (edge) of the sternum, low lung functioning felt as pain at the lung point of the inner elbow or at the palm side of the lower thumb bone or fluttering of the pulse at with the least pressure at the radial bone pulse points. These two act up very clearly with stress. Stress on various meridians is obvious as the constitutional check points act up on the feet, hands and abdomen. Very delicate improvements are also easy to see on the back of the tongue when the vein gets less thick and black. That happens sometimes when they clean up their diet.

Recently, I was doing the 30c daily of a remedy that was really curative, but the aggravation (return of suppressed symptoms) was so severe and I was not giving myself enough rest. So I just kept getting sicker. That is the worst case of the homeopath messing up on self treatment. Later as I began to be aware of the pattern, spacing the remedy certainly improved my progress. I was seeing my acupuncture teacher and keeping track of myself so there was a little more objectivity than the worst case scenario. In any case, I am testing the hypothesis that Grant's HFA leads to fantastic cure records and in general the aggravations are less, but it is certainly helpful to keep aggravations tolerable so that there is more vital force for the cure.

Having said all that, I still starting strong patients out on 30c daily. Weaker patients I watch very closely and space the remedy as needed. With a little diagnosis TCM style, it is easier to predict vital force strength. I am not there yet, but I can clearly see those skills coming.

Some notes from Vilthoukas:

Long period of time between aggravation and first remedy taking indicates weakness of the Vital Force and slower healing. Probably I would think of more spacing of remedies. Catching this first aggravation (ever so slight in the case of the weak) is key. So bringing it out in the beginning if the patient can handle it is ok with me.

High fever even years after the first remedy is indication of health improvement.

If the health condition is very good, good health in childhood, family background etc then a lack of aggravation or acutes is an indication of the wrong remedy. For the person without the fevers and acutes in their history, the accuracy of the remedy can not be tested this way. Any aggravation in 15 days is good.

Gotta go but I highly recommend the book.

Blessings,
Ellen

Remarks.....nobody answered that question I put earlier........1M, 10M, 50M.........how do you really know those are 1000CH, 10,000CH, 50,000CH??????
The 1M that aggravated SUsan might as well have been any potency and we have no idea what it was......same for the 200C, unless it is specifically mentioned that it was done by hand succussion or by the Korsakov method from 3C on, it could in reality be any potency...........
Joe.
