Bed bug treatment

Post by Dana Ullman, MPH »

Dear Friends,

I'm curious if anyone out there has had experience in treating bed bug bites...

Has anyone used Cimex (bed bug) as a treatment or as a preventive treatment?

Not talking of their treatment here.

The previous generation of Indians were immune to anything happening from their bites. Do not know what is the situation now. I remember going to the cinemas with the wooden seats full of these bugs. We realise the havoc only while coming back when the leaning part of the arm (over the wooden hand rest) swollen with red patches all over.

Now with wooden parts reduced to a minimum these bugs have vanished from Indian homes. May have a presence in villages.

We used to ignore these bites in those days. Used to dry in a couple of days.

What would be the thinking behind the use of this rx as a preventative or even after a bite unless there are sx that match - wouldn't be homeopathy otherwise. Cimex does have an urtica like eruption but is primarily a rx for fevers that goes to the joints and tendons, violent rage accompanies (the liver is involved so there could be constipation and/or haemorrhoids) - bed bugs are not known to 'carry disease' and even if they did sx arising would be from individual susceptibility.

Out of interest was just reading that Cimicifuga is a plant used as a deterrent against bed bugs, probably due to its use to counter the reactions of poison ivy (and in potency we see this reference as well) and many of the ranunculus family have that skin tendency).

Only case I have treated was a straightforward Sulphur, mainly because of the results of itching and scratching.

Have been struggling with this one two in NYC where there is massive bed bug infestations.
I used an enzyme product to help rid the bed bugs but the building was so infested that it was
impossible to keep a single apartment clean.
I tried apis for the bites which help minimally and used the essential oil lavender to calm them
down. But this was only paliative giving short term relief.
It is interesting to see how differently people react to the bites. My granddaughter is not
bothered by them at all but my daughter has a horrible reaction. Others seem to fall in between.
Cimex was not tried due to lack of immediate availability.

The differing reactions seems similar to many other differing sensitivities, and should be possible to reduce the reaction thru constitutional work, I would think? (Or other factors to decrease reactivity?)

Also I'm recalling that different people (and plants and animals) are more or less prone to be *attacked* by bugs; should also be possible to become less of a target? E.g. with fleas, high blood levels of vitamin B (I think it is B2?) are deterrent; with mosquitos, eating low sugar and avoiding bananas is supposed to help. I wonder whether taking spilanthes (tincture) would deter bedbugs the way it apparently does mosquitos and ticks?

I once took my vacuum cleaner in for its service and (STUPIDLY) hired a replacement for the week. Bedbugs took over from one use. After 2 weeks of cleaning mattress, bedding etc etc. I got Cimex 30c (96% alcohol - i.e. med potency) and dropped that on the bed corners, mattress (sprinkled in various places), any cracks (where they hide) etc. Got rid of them within a few days. Could I care if I did a proving? Anything better than being bitten!!!
Note to self: never use a strange vacuum cleaner !
regards,
Paul

I know with my daughter, she has adrenal problems. She has finally gone to a homeopath (won't tell me who). This
man does other holistic protocols but don't have a good handle on him since my daughter wont tell me his name and
is unclear about his multiple approaches. But he did corroborate her adrenal problems which were dx by a couple of
other practitioners over the past 5 years. That may have some impact on her sensitivity to the bed bugs.

Ah, now that is a wonderful report. Stored away in case of (God forbid) need! :o)
So you didn't try it on your bites?

Yes, that would impact it.
These days there's a good bit of information available re adrenal issues (and that was not the case not too many years back!). One site and book she may find useful are www.adrenalfatigue.org (sells products that I have found useful, and also book by the same name which is full of great information). Adrenal issues are so central to so many things!

And--it goes without saying, but I had better say it anyway :o) "the right remedy" will give those ol' adrenals exactly the help they need... Still it can be useful to have / know other tools too, for "in between".
