You are indeed correct, Lois, although what you describe enters under the category of side-effects of drugs; clearly any new symptom that appears after starting any medication must first and foremost raise the suspicion of a direct relation. And the action is not always on the BP, it can provoke any symptom and mimic any disease/pathology.
The point I am trying to make though is that we should not deprive ourselves of valuable information easily obtained and easily learned.

True. But the point was meant to simply be that there is no such thing as a totally "silent" disease...just one whose indications are glossed over or ignored, because they don't fit the medical paradigm as useful indicators or aren't strong enough to "matter" or aren't even noticed/acknowledged. Hence the reference to Hahnemann's comment that true one-sided cases are rare, and that usually there ARE useful Sx, if you look hard enough.
yes, of course. But you have to first be able to recognize what constitutes "downward". Certainly suicidal thoughts would be recognized, but very slight shifts in mood, outlook or energy levels?
In the allopathic paradigm, I'd say that physical and especially outright pathological Sx take precedence over mental/emotional Sx. In the homeopathic one, one tends to be more open to a wider range of therapeutic indicators, more likely to value mental/emotional than physical and to pay attention to even slight variations in all of the above.
Probably had a part, yes, especially given that I was the one pointing up the problem, and I'm the black-sheep non-allopath of the family! And my Mom's refusal to stop taking something that seemed to be bothering her was due mainly to a blind faith that doing as she was told by a doctor would always be best...no matter what the actual evidence was.
Good point! This was in fact operative, as the cardiologist in question was not only my Dad's cardiologist as well, but was considered a friend/colleague. They might both have been better served by finding a better one, but wouldn't have wanted to offend a "friend".
These last two points are important and very relevant: whether one "sees" the symptoms of an incipient disease, be it HBP or cancer or what have you, depends on a GREAT many things, and in particular, as much on ONESELF and one's worldview as on the actual symptoms and their strength.

sorry for the aborted post:
you did not mention the issue of categorical expectations in allopathy.
by that i mean that people get put into boxes by age, race, gender, etc.
symptoms are perceived based on expectations. an older man most
likely has prostate cancer if he has bladder problems, for example. or
a younger person would not have diabetes if they are not obese. or
a person is too young for a heart condition. i recall a woman in her
80's who was having a terriby reaction to some med and her vision was
profoundly affected. the doctor just blew it off saying something to the
effect that it was a typical problem of her age. i encouraged the daughter
to check the disease producing effects of the drug which were, in fact,
causing the problem. no more meds, no more vision problems. that
story ended happily, but not before the woman was becoming suicidally
depressed at losing her vision and not being able to read.
