Re: Is it possible to treat genetic disorders?
Hi Nader
I simply said that syphilis can be 'inherited' - that is passed down to the child from the mother. Agreed that the allopathic term for this is 'congenital', but I was simply describing the mechanism by which this is acquired.
The article by Dr. Shahrdar is interesting - I have read it before, and he makes useful points. In my opinion, it does not matter whose syphilis we are talking about - I think the manifestations will lead to the correct group of remedies, don't you?

I remember him saying the same thing and asked him at one point and that is all he knew - that someone he had met had had good luck treating downs and turning it around.

Lynn, these are wonderful links!
I haven't read it all yet, but am struck by this part, which speaks so directly to the question of treating genetic disorders. (It's about half-way through the first link.)
Thanks for this!

"David: Dr. Isaac also ran a private practice at his home on the weekends. Here the case load was much lighter and we had more time to examine each patient. He was treating a good number of mongoloid children and getting great results! I examined youths that were in their teenage years who did not even look like mongoloids. If one looked very, very closely one could see certain physical signs like high cheekbones and the Mongolian lids but nothing more. They were all doing very well in school and considered absolutely normal by others. These persons had been his patients since childhood.
Leela: How interesting!! Mongoloid Children leading a near normal life! This is what I was talking about with a colleague earlier. There has never been any clear documentation done in India of treatment of these types of (incurable) cases that make up a confident reference point for the young homeopath today. How did Dr. Isaac explain this improvement?
David: ***He told me that the key was to begin treatment when they were infants and stay with them throughout the early growing years and puberty. If this was done they would live a normal life.*** [emphasis mine] Those who came later in life showed significant but less dramatic improvements. I looked at the records of these cases and found no new fancy tricks or unusual remedies. Most cases were resolved with remedies like Bartya Carbonica, Bartya Muriaticum, Calcarea, Bufo, Phosphorus, Natrum Muriaticum, Medorrhinum, Syphilinum, etc. The major teaching I learned from Dr. Isaac was to learn the major characteristics of the most proven 300 remedies very well. In this manner one can do good work under even the heaviest patient load under the worst conditions.

Re: Is it possible to treat genetic disorders?
In India many of the doctors have experience in treating genetic disorders. In general the approach there is to take on anything and do whatever you can. I think that is the right approach to take. We do not know the limitations of homeopathy really and since the approach of homeopathy is not based on what the remedy can do to the *disease* but in how it can help the body and vital force achieve what it needs to, the limitation is only what the body and vital force are capable of achieving. I like to call homeopathy as a Solution Focused therapy; that there is a solution for anything. We have all the keys possible in our materia medica and we are usually just looking for the locks and the effort is only of finding the right key from our collection.
Take the same approach even here. Even if we cannot cure some of these conditions definitely we can improve a lot of them.
Another thought on this is - if we do not know the pathology behind we would not hesitate to treat this - and I think that is the better approach to take... prognosis, treatable or not all of that applies only to allopathy , most of the time since the studies that talk about prognosis are from allopathic point of view...we need not be guided by those
