advice/ideas?

Post by Rochelle Marsden »

I have patient I have been treating on and off since 2001. This is the patient who has been having frequent bouts of flu which we think we have sorted with Tabacum. She last had a dose of Tabacum 1M in February and it is 8 weeks since she has had a bout of "flu". We are now left with these weird symptoms which started she reckons 2 years ago when her husband's grandchildren was diagnosed at age 4 with a brain tumour. After lots of allopathic treatment he is in remission.
These symptoms are intermittent with totally no pattern. Yesterday when she came was a good day.
Eyes

- "Blurred in right eye as if a smudge if there and I have to look past it. When I am driving I feel as if I am being pulled sideways and mid afternoon I sometimes have to close my eyes to rest them, They said the nerves are swollen at the back of my eye and have no idea what it is or why."

Eyes; enlarged; nerves, optic: (1) Tabac
She told me the above in December and the only addition to this :-

"Eye problem is worse than it has ever been. Sort of stabbing pain in right eye. Maybe stabbing is too strong - it is like a bruise. There is a visual disturbance which is like a blur or a fog in the right side of the right eye. It comes with the leg problem which is still the same." She says when she closes her eyes at night and sleeps the pain goes.
Legs - Right - "feels like a numbness and sometimes I can't get it to work. I feel like my legs don't belong to me . They can jump like an electric shock and hurt , waking me up.
Sometimes she gets numbness in right leg and left arm with tingling.
She has had allopathic tests and MS has been ruled out although she is not convinced. She has now been offered a lumbar puncture but has not taken them up on it.
Before the Tabacum over the years her M and E problems which are fine at the moment have been kept at bay with infrequent doses of Lachesis. We started with 30 and went up to 50M. The last dose was Nov 09 after anxiety about stressful situations with members of her family. This is someone who came originally on anti depressants thinking she would have to be on them for life.
Any ideas where to go with this would be appreciated. Thanks
Rochelle

oh goody some homeopathy at last :-))

One point I would make is this - I am finding it hard to see why the thought of simillimum for the totality didn't actually address the tendency towards developing 'flu like sx and why there was a need to go from Lachesis to Tabacum.

But now you have new sx and all you can do is re-take the case and incorporate them, bearing in mind that some of them resemble Tabacum sx.

Rochelle,
You will find this amusing given our recent email exchange ... I would look at Tarentula. Remember that there does not need to be a love of rock music to prescribe it! ;-)
I base this on the following. Similar to Lachesis - nervous phenomena. Excitability of the nerves. Specifically, the rubric: Extremities, numbness, insensibility, upper limbs and lower limbs, left, and right leg. One remedy: Tarentula. Psychiatric complaints.
As a differential, I would consider Ignatia which shares many characteristics of Tarentula in its "hysterical" state. Of particular note would be the jerkings of the limbs ("violent startlings of the limbs" - Farrington) and 'peculiar vision perversions.' Both have illness following a grief or fright (of which I would consider the grandson's illness to apply to both). Tarentula well indicated for MS.
I don't know what her previous 'flu' symptoms are so I can't be specific. Tarentula antidotes Lachesis.
Other Rubrics:
Vision, dim, right.
Vision, foggy.
Extremities, numbness, insensibility, left, arm, and right leg.
Eye, pain, stitching.
Eye, pain, sore, bruised.
Eyes, pain, closing eyes, amel.
Mind, grief, ailments from, agg.
Read the MMs - you'll see the picture there. :-)
HIH!
Truly,
Erica

Thanks for your ideas Erica. I will certainly look at this.
I actually gave her Agaricus 30 to see if that helped at all and told her to get in touch if there was no improvement at all.
