suppression/palliation/partially indicated remedy

Somebody on the list was worried about the possibility of suppressing a patient. Althougth suppressions can take place with Homoeopathic remedies it is not common with proper prescribing. For suppression to take place the remedy needs to be firstly dissimilar and secondly stronger than the disease. Now although medicine is always stronger than disease a single dose of dissimilar Homoeopathic remedy is usually (althougth it happens rarely) not enough to suppress and maintain the suppression. Because of the minuteness of the dose of Homoeopathic remedies they only act on susceptible patients so that if the remedy is dissimilar it produces very little effect.
Palliation and partial cure are more common. But palliation and partial cure are strong tools to be used wisely whenevr needed. In cases coming with severe acute excarrebation such as asthma, or sciatica you need to know the remedies that will quickly stop the attack. I know most Homoeopaths today prefer to advise their patients to use their inhalors rather than give a Homoeopathic remedy because of the fear of disrupting the case - but this need not be so. When a disease is asking for a remedy it is better to give it and then if there is disruption give the constitutional fremedy again (if still indicated - in another potency). Ofr course if you are palliating - you should know what you are doing and immjediately after the subsiding of the acute attack go to the treatment of the underelying layer.
Again a remedy may be partially indicated and take the cure half way and then another remedy may be called for to finish the case. This is again nothing to be afraid of or worried about. Dr. Hahnemann himself tells us in the treatment of chronic diseases you will need a series of anti-psorics one after the other being guided to each remedy by the symtoms last appearing.
