I am trying to help a 13year old maltese terrier which its owner(a chiropractor) suspects may suffer from a form of epilepsy. The dog, a female, is mostly blind, and seems to suffer from co-ordination problems. The best example I can think of to describe this is that of a wind-up toy. Mary-Lou seems to move around the house, and finds herself in a corner. Until her owner tells her to back out of the corner, she pauses, unsure of where to go next. She constantly hits her head on walls(not deliberately, just to move about, and then it's clumsily). If she is nowhere near corners of a room, she can walk round and round in a circle, then stop ~this is where the image of the wind-up toy comes in~if you were to wind her up again, she would continue the same pattern. She recently had a tumble down - no broken bones, and her owner gave her Arnica and Rescue Remedy. The co-ordination problems have been around a while, unaffected by the recent tumble. She's a placid dog, and doesn't seem to be distressed by bumping her head so much. The only other treatment(homeopathic) she's had is Gelsemium to help with the trembling gait, which has been helping.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience with treating epilepsy in dogs? I've not seen the dog, and apart from the Arnica/rescue Remedy, have not treated her.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
