Re: Genus Epidemicus
Cured and she can't believe it as her daughter took 2 weeks to get over it!! The power of homeopathy!! She took 3 doses at hourly intervals on Sunday and that stopped the diarrhoea . I told her to take another couple of doses that day and that stopped the vomiting and she has been fine today. It couldn't have been something she ate she says because she is staying with a friend and they both ate the same since last Thursday and her friend is fine.I suppose it could be susceptibility. Lets see if the friend gets the same bug now!!

Re: Genus Epidemicus
Of course it is not only children under 3 but they seem to be the
most seriously affected. There was mention of cough so maybe Carbo
Veg would be good to have available. Peter Chapell mentions
Belladonna for violent cough and certainly one would think of that if
hot dry and red. It would be good if parents could have a few
remedies on hand and know the indications, Jean

Re: Genus Epidemicus
At this point all that is being released is that the deaths occurred from secondary bacterial complications of the Type A flu. NO symptoms really so far to make remedy selections from.
I am in QLD and have had about 6 weeks of kids with really bad coughs (post common cold or flu) that linger and linger - predominant remedies so far have been Belladonna & Gelsemium (more first stage),then Phosphorous, Lycopodium/Sulphur, Rhustox. The wild westerly/southerly winds have also brought out the allergies (sneezing and sinus), agg with the cold,(tho I guess what we call cold is well paltry compared with where some of you live!!) and flu symptoms on top.
Oh well I guess it hones my acute prescribing
Regards Pauline

Re: Genus Epidemicus
Jean,
In addition to what I already sent, wanted to add Nux Vomica to the list... it's the flu that never ends. OK by day - much worse at night. Oldest came down with it last night (she had successfully fought much of it off last week except the outbreak on her face). Last night she developed "scraping sore throat", hoarse voice (as did the little one), cough, high fever, backache, sore muscles all over. Nux has kept her comfortable this morning. Baby was again crying and miserable - constipated for 3 days - seemed to have cystitis like symptoms. One dose of Nux - she went to sleep for 2 hours - woke up happy as a clam at high tide.
I felt a little achy last night and my tummy was feeling weird so I took a dose of Nux and went to bed. Woke up fine this morning but a little frog in my throat. Nanny felt punkish on Friday - thought it was a hang over - took a dose of Nux - hasn't gotten sick yet.
So seems to be a good fit. The picture has changed rather rapidly with the young ones though. VERY high fevers.
Truly,
Erica

Re: Genus Epidemicus
What worked for me is Staphisagria. I was surprised to find I had
stopped coughing and bringing out huge yellow lumps from the back of
the throat in the morning.
The cough comes from the tickling caused by the lumps of mucous that
stick to the back of the throat from the back of the nose .
It seems that this virus has gone around the world
Here it seems to start with a cold, and fever with a headache that
seems to be from blocked sinuses, then diarhea, and then the headache
and fever goes away but is replaced by thick mucous causing the nose
to be blocked and then this starts to become post nasal expectorate
which is thick and irritates the throact causing hooarseness and cough
which lasts and lasts. The cough can be so bad as to cause retching
and in some , stres incontince. And the body ache that accompanies is
quite something too.

Re: Genus Epidemicus
Thank you for contribution. Exactly what an aged friend described to me today. He has had recent surgery with complications. Unfortunately has no interest in taking a remedy . Maybe just knowing what would help will do something. Maybe I will call tomorrow and try again, Best Wishes, Jean
