research sought

Post by Tanya Marquette »

I have been thinking about the state of birthing lately. The sensations and feelings that a child
goes through as they are born and the problems that might occur that remain with them. Not
talking about physical damage such as brain damage or joint damage that might occur as the
infant passes through the birth canal.
I think there has been some work done to analyze or describe the trauma of childbirth that
remains with the individual. Perhaps the sense of asphyxiation, or the sense of resistence to
being born. Or perhaps the sense of contriction that might be experienced.
Does anyone know of any books or articles that have been written on this subject?
Has anyone on this list done any focused work on this type of phenomenon?

Hi Tanya,

Have you read "Miasms in Labor" ?
It is included in some versions of Encyclopedia Homeopathica

from reviews:
The theories explained in his book have been influenced by the teachings
of Czech psychiatrist Stanislav Grof. Van der Zee recognized Grof's
descriptions of patterns experienced in the birth process closely
resemble the teachings on miasms in homeopathy.

After examining Grof's teachings on the 'Kingdoms of the Human
Unconscious', the reader learns about what a foetus may experience
according to the research of the day. the reader is guided through the
miasms in the different phases of the process of birth. There is a
discussion of the "pre-miasmatic state"
-----
The first part of the book describes the similarities between the phases
in the birth process (described by Czech psychiatrist Stanislav Grof)
and the miasms,
and elaborates on the remedies identified with each stage/miasm.
Then follows the part which places the miasms in the light of the
Jungian individuation process, ‘thus transforming the perception of the
miasms from merely diseased states into correcting mechanisms in an
evolutionary process’

Integrated with insights from other contemporary theories in homeopathy,
as well as from mythology and the Bible but above all from Stanislav
Grof and Jungian psychology, the ideas are presented in a most coherent
and eloquent way, woven beautifully to make a colourful fabric.

"a miasm is parallel to a stage in our life, a shadow side of evolution"
van der Zee

Chapters:
What the Foetus experiences
In hypnosis many records of remembering birth are gathered. What is
striking is that it appears that the infant understands what is said by
parents and others present at birth, and is influenced strongly by it.
Negative remarks or feelings can determine the rest of their life. Not
only do they understand what is said, but also they can feel the desire
to communicate their own feelings and desires.

Linda Mathison has gathered spontaneously reported birth memories from
children. These stories are told mostly by two and three year olds.

David Chamberlain hypnotised mothers and their children and found a
strong correlation between their reports of the birth experience.
Chamberlain concludes that the unborn is in charge of the pregnancy and
the delivery. It produces at the right time hormones needed to induce
changes in the physiology of the mother. It prevents the mother from
aborting him, it determines the duration of the pregnancy, decides its
presentation for delivery, and gives a hormonal sign to start the delivery.

Birth Language:
'I can't get started.'
'I'm stuck.'
'There is no room for me.'
'I feel crushed.'
'I'm beating my head against a brick wall.'
'I can't find my way.'
'I don't know which way to go.'
'I don't see a way out.'
'I'm afraid to leave the house.'
'I can fight my way out of this.'
'There is no way back.'
'I can't get through.'
'I can't see the light.'
'I have to break out.'
'I feel pulled.'
'I feel pushed.'
----------------
There is also:
"Homeopathic Remedies for the Stages of Life" by Didier Grandgeorge
which is mostly about post birth, but gives some pre bith insights

thank you lyn. this is so fascinating.

sounding a little 'woo woo' i am reminded of the
idea that we make soul contracts prior to coming
back to earth; ie, at time/before conception in the mother.
thus, the infant is coming into the world with some life
purpose and is strongly affected by the birth process.

i have heard before that children, toddler age, have been
heard talking to newborns about their previous soul life.
so this is in line with what you are presenting. i will
try to get the books you mention. my computer will not
download the eh program now so i am without most of
my reference books. hopefully that will get rectified soon.

Tanya,
I have been doing a little research on this but haven't uncovered much. My 3rd was a VBAC and she was born with the cord wrapped 4 times, blue, and not breathing. She had to be rescuscitated. When she came out, the doctor said, "Four wraps, I've never seen four before." At the same time I was bleeding out and had to go into surgery for major repair. It was quite chaotic. I managed to get my husband to give her a few drops of carbo veg - she spewed out lots of liquids and perked right up.
Anyway, as an infant she couldn't stand being strapped into her carseat. She would scream and scream. Now as a 4 year old, she still doesn't like being strapped in and will loosen the straps. But she also complains that the bands on her shirts (arms) are too tight and hurt her. We have to stretch out the armholes even if they are very loose. Once we stretch them she seems satisfied. She refuses to let you button the top button of any shirt or dress - even if it isn't tight. I have yet to find a remedy to help address this trauma. If you come across one, would you mind dropping me a line? :-)
Truly,
Erica
P.S. My son was the Csection and when he was 4, he used to ask to pretend to be born. So he would get under a blanket on my belly and ask me to push him out and then go through the whole post-birth scene where I would hold him on my belly and coo over him. It was very interesting! He *loved* it and would ask for it frequently until finally one day he said, I don't need to do that anymore. I have no idea where he would have come up with idea - it was all his.

you will notice that in the first rubric there are many snake remedies.

EXTERNAL THROAT - CLOTHING agg.

very interesting situations. sounds like your daughter may have /had some
suffocation issues and still carries the fear with her. obviously the case needs
more careful consideration than this superficial comment. but have you looked
at the snake remedies?
your son's situation is intreguing. its as if he carried the loss of the birth process
with him into life and needed to go through that entry in order to feel right.
out of curiosity, did he ever indicate feeling as if he wasn't quite here, or that
he hadn't quite landed in some way? your openess to allowing him to play act
the birth process was a wonderful form of therapy for him.

Hi Tanya,
Yes, I definitely noticed. :-). My other daughter is Crot-H constitutionally. It's funny though, other than the buttons, it's not so much the throat that bothers her - it's her arm holes. I've always included the rubric, gen, clothing, intolerance of, loosening amel as she spent much of her first couple years naked by choice! And she refuses to wear underwear. (Med helped her a great deal.) And if we stretch the armholes, she's happy - even if they weren't tight to start. It's like a delusion they are tight. So it is rather an SRP for her.
I was just curious if that rang a bell for anyone. But I certainly appreciate your response. She is a true homeopathy baby - having it all through the pregnancy and right through present day at age 4. She is an absolute JOY! If every child were like her I would have 10 more! :-) And her social intelligence is amazing for a 4 year old.
Anyhow - my son is the one who is recovered from autism so yes - he didn't have to indicate - he totally wasn't here! :-)
Thanks!
Truly,
Erica
