When my husband first was diagnosed with diabetes I used Syzygium
tincture - see Boericke and Clarke for info on it - and this made
drastic improvements on his readings: his first reading was around 33,
with his readings coming down to around seven within six weeks. He did
of course control his diet as well. He did really well for twelve
months but then gave up the Syzygium, and the diet control, and very
quickly ended up on insulin.

That's great! I can't find very much information about it. What is it mostly used for?
(Not being able to keep of carbos probably means a specific nutrient deficiency, with protein being a very common cause--I would think especially in an elderly person, as they generally do not digest the protein they do eat very efficiently any more. Steering her toward extra-digestible forms of it could be useful? Maybe try to have her at least eat the protein food *before* carbs?)

I have in the past tried Syzygium and Gymnema (which I think is better) both in MT. Don;t think Syzygium did anything but the Gymnema seemed to stop high readings if I had eaten something I shouldn't have done.
One of the Lanthanide remedies I have been on brought down the fasting reading immediately but it didn't last. Am on another one now but the tea (4 cups a day) has made an amazing difference.
I know it is a progressive disease (it is inheritary in my case as I am not over weight) but I plan to stay off medication for as long as possible and I do think this is possible with a sensible diet + exercise.
in case anyone is interested the website is http://www.holylandmediplants.com/gp.asp?gpid=107 I got google to translate.

Andrographis is known as the king of bitters. It is in some immune boosting formulas to protect against flu and colds. This is what I have in notes about it.

It is thought to help:

Prevent atheroscleroris

Inhibit Platelet Aggregating Factor thus reducing normal blood clotting

Reduce inflammation

Prevent the common cold and reduce symptoms of URT infections

Kill Herpes Simplex Type 1

Stimulate apoptosis of Leukemia cells

Prevent/treat Liver Cancer

Prevent Prostate Cancer

Have anthelmintic activity against roundworm

Protect the liver from damage caused by toxins (eg Carbon

Tetrachloride and Paracetamol)

Prevent Multiple Sclerosis

Reduce the toxicity of Arsenic.

Reduce the toxic effects of Cyclophosphamide in the Bladder.

Inhibit the activation of Nuclear Factor-Kappa B. without inhibiting cell growth.
It's active ingredients are rapidly absorbed with a preferential distribution to Gallbladder, Kidneys Ovaries and Lungs.
Not for use during pregnancy.

Here's information from a fragmentary proving in Ghose:
Homeopathic Provings and Materia Medica
Dr. Pramada Prasanna Biswas, of Patna and Dr. N. Sinha made provings of this drug.
Both the provings are, no doubt, incomplete and fragmentary, bit they cannot be brushed aside with indifference. They lead us to think that it will urn out to be an excellent remedy in our materia medica.
Materia Medica
Head - Giddiness of head; throbbing pain on the occiput, sometimes very painful; heaviness of head, frontal headache.
Mind. Despondency; no desire to do any work; no desire to talk; restlessness; easily angered.
Eyes. Redness of eyes; yellowish tinge of eyes.
Nose. Watery discharge from the nose; symptoms of catarrh present; occasional sneezing.
Mouth, Tongue and Throat - Bitter taste in the mouth; dryness of throat; white coating of the tongue.
Abdomen - Occasional eructations; burning in chest and throat; heaviness of abdomen; no longer; ineffectual urging of stool; heat and burning (occasional) of abdomen; enlargement of liver, painful to touch; pain felt over liver on pressure, many disorders of liver, infantile derangement of the liver and its enlargement..
Stool - Loose stools, loose bilious stools, constipation; frequent urging for stool, bit no evacuation takes place, blackish hard stools; yellow loose stools of infants; sometimes constipation, sometimes easy motion; tendency to costiveness.
Urine - Urine high - coloured, in infantile jaundice, urine is thick and yellow.
Fever - Double type of fever is a grand characteristic of this drug fever is associated with slight chilliness, heat remaining all along, heat marked with burning sensation all over the body; there are headache and thirst; burning sensation is relieved by cold air and application of cold water; efficacious in intermittent and remittent fevers and almost specific in the fever which comes on with double accession; jaundice and constipation manifest themselves; fever comes on after eleven AM and again appears at 7 or eight PM
Modalities - Cold water relieves the burning sensation of the body; sweat also relieves these symptoms; all symptoms are worse during fever; there is an intermingling of contradictory symptoms.

Peace,
Dale

Kerry,
Dr. Ramakrishnan uses at first 10 for many months then 15 drops Syz Jamb MT 2x/day after eating. Were you using similar amounts?

Susan

Hi Susan

It is a few years back now and I can’t honestly remember the dosing in
terms of size of dose but I seem to recall he took it three times a day.
I actually found out about the Syzygium through an article by a
naturopath, rather than through studying homeopathy, and I vaguely seem
to recall that the dosage he recommended was higher than I saw when
looking through homeopathic literature, though I didn’t come across Dr
Ramakrishnan’s recommendations. My husband’s symptoms did match exactly
those mentioned by Boericke: “Great thirst, weakness, emaciation, very
large amounts of urine.” He was quite ill before he saw a doctor and
was diagnosed. His eyesight had also suffered a sudden deterioration
and that went back to normal with the Syz as well. He had seen an
optician but the optician didn’t pick up on the diabetes as they should
have done in the case of sudden eyesight deterioration.

Sorry that I couldn't be of further help.

Kerry
