definition of homeopathy for the lay person

Post by Ellen Madono »

I am trying to write a short definition of homeopathy for the lay
reader of my website. This definition goes at the beginning of the
introductory Q&A page of the site. It is also provides a link to the
introductory theoretical page of the site. My feeling is an
introduction should contain no homeopathic jagon heavier than the word
"remedy" I am trying to provide some theoretical information without
getting into technical detail. I would appreciate any ideas for how
to express myself better.

At the same time, I am avoiding the legal no no words for public
documents on homeopathy.

What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is the practice of using clinical evidence to select
remedies which will stimulate the body, mind and emotions to reach a
state of dynamic equilibrium. By dynamic I mean that adaption to
changes in the environment becomes easy. When the body, mind and
emotions are balanced, the problems that were caused by imbalance
disappear. A state of dynamic equilibrium is achieved by selecting a
remedy which in clinical testing produce symptoms similar to the
symptoms that are bothering the homeopathic patient. (Link to
Theoretical Q&A).
The role of a homeopath is to guide the patient so that progress
toward increasing balance continues over the long term. Good
management of the process of problem resolution in health care is
encouraged by good communication between homeopath and patient so that
the patient can used the clinical wisdom of 200 years of homeopathic
practice for self care.

You do Aikido? Most lay people don't, but you are absolutely right.

The website for the Society of Homeopaths has a nice
intro to homeopathy piece that I am using. It is a bit
lenghthy, going through the case taking process a bit.
But you can modify the statement or take some ideas from
it. It clearly was meant to be a lay intro definition

Dear Tanya,
That is a very nice statement. Especially the first definition. Thank-you.
