It wasn't that simple. There was a long hard fight in South Africa - does anyone remember the articles in the Sunday Times about this some years back? The Times (strangely, because they usually toe the allopathic line on all things medical)initially took the view that the HIV virus had never actually been seen under a microscope, and that there was therefore something else going on, But it was attacked for its stance on this, and subsequently went silent. And Mbeki, who argued long and hard against anti-viral drugs, taking advice from independent scientists who wanted to promote vitamins and better nutrition, was finally silenced - and the drug companies won! Mbeki is now no longer President.

Hi Tanya
Why do you find this 'marriage' difficult? Both are driven by the same goal - 'greed'.
Scratch any nasty behaviour, and you'll probably find greed at the bottom of it. Anything which stands in their way, or represents an ideological threat to their philosophy or 'take' on life has to be destroyed.
The 'free market' is nothing but an attempt (a modern colonialisation, if you like) to take over and control the world by a relatively minority group of powerful people and countries, thereby ensuring that they have a steady supply of what they need to make money. People don't count, other than as cannon fodder, or slave workers or gullible idiots that you can foist your products onto and make even more money. So in the West, drugs, for example, are seen as a right for all (hey - they keep you alive, don't they!) and rampant consumerism is encouraged. In developing countries, they are trying hard to ensure they also become consumers, whilst making sure that they support Western affluence.
Occasionally there's a wobble, as with the current recession, but there's no real will to fix the system, because that would mean a fairer deal for all, and less money for the few who want to stay powerful. So governments will make the right noises, like our own in the UK who expressed shock and horror at the City culture of bonuses for bankers who had led us into the recession. Nine months on, bonuses are back - in the very banks that have had to be bailed out by the taxpayers' money! Will anything be done about the 'fat cats' as we call them? Of course not - they need to be kept happy so that those at the very top are able to continue unhindered.
Sorry about this rant!

I think we are in total agreement! So nice to know that you feel the same. I despair, Tanya, of what will happen. Sometimes it seems that the odds are too heavily stacked against us.
Obama - I cried when he was elected - stayed up all night. But is he corrupt, or simply being forced along a certain path by forces outside his control? The signs don't look good. And if he becomes defiant - well, there's always a bullet!

It's very carefully orchestrated. There was extreme outrage over here in the UK when one of our politicians said over in the US that you should not follow the example of the UK and create a National Health Service along British lines because it was a failure. We love our NHS - it is the last great legacy of the socialist post-war governement, and in spite of all its failings, it is well worth conserving. No-one has to go without - no-one has to fear falling ill or having an accident. I would fight tooth and nail to keep it. Unfortunately, until a few months ago, we had six NHS homeopathic hospitals - now there are five, and more will probably have to close. This is all being orchestrated by the drug companies - how they hate us, because we have something that works!
