Swine flu/AGE

Post by Theresa Partington »

Brave girl, Rochelle! For benefit of some of those who seem amazed at the idea of Helios selling this, I can say that they have been selling it for over 25 years, as have the other major uk pharmacies . It is one of a group of combos (like ABC and AES) which have been in common use since the days of Thos Maugham and probably before. I don't know that they were actually taught in colleges as such but would be passed on more as tips by various lecturers who must have found them useful. I therefore find the shock and horror a bit hard to understant. I have used them on occasion, too, over the years. I agree that they shouldn't be necessary, and I am sure we could manage without them, but the argument that you wouldn't know what to do next doesn't really hold if they are just being used for simple acutes. When the flu is no longer there you don't need to continue to treat it at all. The situation will have totally changed. Using similar combos for more chronic conditions was also commonly done in the same tradition, however, and the criticism is much more valid there.
You don't have to apply the logic of one scenario to another to validate it or otherwise.

Why is it more valid for chronic conditions? And why would longevity of practice make them more valid? If an acute is simple it probably doesn't even need treating and no-one can call 'flu a 'simple' acute. It astonishes me that people who are treating dangerous and/or life threatening acutes with combos are even practicing at all.

Why opt for a combination. It tends to suggest that the practitioner cannot make up their mind or are too lazy to take the full case. How can anyone present with the sx of Ars iod, Gels, and Eup - even the fever, temperature sx are in conflict with each other. So coming back with the validation "it seemed useful at the time' or 'it worked' is totally confusing. What worked? You won't ever know. What is wrong with using just one of these remedies, as long as the sx fit the case. I'd love to see the analysis of such a case and the justification of using this combo.

I was saying, I thought, that it was *less* valid for chronic conditions or at least that the criticism about not knowing where to go next was more valid, imo.
If you are really astonished that people treat flu with this particular combo and many of the same pratitioners have been doing so, it would appear, for at least 30 years to my knowledge, perhaps you are too easily astonished. I imagine that if the bodies had started piling up they might have stopped.

Dear Theresa
I very much doubt that any one has been killed by mis-use or abuse of homeopathy or potentised substances. That is the beauty of it.
Why else would our insurance cover be so cheap?
However, there are many many cases that have become nigh-on impossible to resolve because of abuse/mis-use of potentised.
Only an experienced homeopath would recognise such cases and of course the patient who goes away.
The practise of prescribing combos cannot be called homeopathy because we are no longer dealing with symptom similarity, nor using the similimum (which by definition is only ONE), nor is a proved substance is being prescribed (because I bet no one has proved the mixture of potentised substances).
Perhaps it should be called comboing!

Soroush

I don't really have a problem with any of this or with Soroush's comments. My point really was about 'shock and horror' being expressed about remedies that have been produced by all major uk pharmacies for at least 1/4 century. ( I came across them 32 years ago!) and the fact that loads of the stuff gets bought and presumably prescribed. Unless list members live in ivory towers and never read catalogues it seems a bit of an over-reaction. Any implication that results are always going to be disastrous also seems a bit over the top, implying as it does that said pharmacies and practitioners are unobservant to say the least! Anyway, probably me overreacting to perceived over reactions!

Obviously you care not for Hahnemann then. It's disastrous to the definition of homeopathy though and to the clients who don't return. And maybe you haven't had to deal with messed up cases in your ivory tower. Pharmacies need to make money and they will sell any potentised substance - even dog poo!

The logic of using combos in acutes but not for chronics makes absolutely no sense. A little bit of this rx, and a touch of that one, a bit of this, that and that one etc etc and hey presto. If it is ok for acutes then it is ok for all cases.

Quack busters delight!

I have not seen Combos doing a lot of harm in chronics either...
In India there are homeopaths of all stripes.. with a lot of success by giving single remedy or combo remedies... I have seen marvelous results with combination remedies as well- mostly in several other homeopaths hands... single remedies are so very esthetically pleasing and precise... does not mean they are the only ones that are effective or could be used... Personally I think it is the vital force that cures and anything that aids it or even tips the scales in its favor would help or hasten the cure-

otherwise we do not have a rationale for the cures with Ayurveda, Siddha etc. and those with acupuncture...
