Melasma

Post by Rochelle »

I have a new patient coming in who has had Melasma of the upper lip for 2 years since she went on the pill (is now off it). I explained how we treat the individual etc and no promises etc . She also tells me that she has packed in work and won't go out anywhere because of it and that it shows through professional concealers.
Obviously there is a lot going on here with her confidence etc to be worked on but I just wondered if anyone has come across this before and if they have had any success with it.
Thanks
Rochelle (now at least receiving a Digest to my OE!!!)

Hi Rochelle
How long has she been off the pill?
What is her natural skin colour?

Skin colour white and she has been off it for about 2 years as it came up as soon as she went on the pill age 23. She said she has spent a fortune on creams and dermatologists have told her that it won't go away. However she said she refuses to believe this!! I am not seeing her until the middle of August so have no more details

Just dug out a few cases but I know I've treated several over the years (male and female) not all on the face though but it can occur anywhere.

Dear Joy,
You said you have treated several but you didn't say if you had any success removing this condition in the patients :-)

Cannot recall any of them not being cured, but I haven't kept all records from a long time ago. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise, just being brief.

Yes , that is the obvious one and because the cause was the pill Foll will also be considered. However when I take the case it may be entirely different. The embarrassment and severe underconfidence , so much so that she won't go out of the hpuse will be a factor in prescribing.
