Soroush's post giving the guidelines for topics to be discussed here,
seems relatively clear--at least enough so that it does exclude some of
the topics that sometimes come up.

Perhaps those discussions might be moved to Minutus' predecessor list,
Homeolist. It has deliberately left the subject boundaries broad (tho
it too has been classical in *focus*, permitted discussion is anything
generally about "homeopathy" of any stripe), and also has had a very
broad and valuable membership. (Including much of Minutus'
membership.) It has been very quiet for the past year or so, as most
of the activity moved to Minutus. But now that Minutus has been more
clearly defined in its scope (Hahnemannian), it seems appropriate to
mention the broader list(s) as well, so that "non-Hahnemannian"
discussions can be done there.

For those who specifically want a place where discussion stays civil
(which I *hope* it will on Homeolist, but we'll have to see), another I
can suggest is Homeopathy Open, at yahoogroups. (Go to the Yahoogroups
webpage for details and sign-up.)

Of course there are other lists too, but I'm hoping we can keep some
degree of continuity.

Homeolist's problem is that it is not set up as a list.
It is set up as a mail redirection forum (causing unwanted private
email and duplication of email).
Apart from bad netiquette, it is most intrusive.
If the owner changed the reply setting to "reply to list" (where list
mail BELONGS by default) that would make more sense for a discussion
forum.

The group web page says "classical and Hahnemannian"
The definitions too are open to interpretation, and I can not yet see
two people agreeing on what is really covered:-)
(And I did not put my oar in there....)
Yes.... but a "reply to sender" instead of "reply to list" is not
within any reasonable definition of a discussion group.
I'll join there, maybe it is set up with reply to list.

Hi Irene,
? Are you referring to the posts that sometimes come thru otherhealth?
I don't know what a "mail redirection formum" mean.
He did that because of the occasional "slip" where someone intended to
send a comment privately, but forgot to change the default from its
then-current "reply to list." Ooooooppppssss! ) Very
embarrassing... He felt it would be "safer" to have default to go the
individual. I find it a *little* bit of a nuisance, but not enough to
trouble about...

Yep, it's still ambiguous.
But the post Soroush sent did seem to come down "on the side of" the
folks who were making "You can't talk about that, you #*@(%^"
remarks.

I do *wish* that Ardavan had seen fit to clarify *all* of the issues,
*at the time* that he was asked. But since "this is as clear as it
gets," and I'm thoroughly sick of the hissy fits (and I know some
others are too), I thought that might be an improvement.

I've been thinking for a *long* time--years--that Minutus and Homeolist
ought to "divide up the turf" in a way that gives each an area of
emphasis or preference, rather than having two nearly identical lists
(which they were for a number of years), with the same people doing
battle over the same "turf wars".

Everyone does that at least once in a lifetime - I've done it - and I
do not sympathize with setting the entire list's posts to
"inconvenient, duplication and intrusion of privacy" as a solution
about..

It will vary by user but because it is misuse of a system not
designed for the purpose, there will always be some who are greatly
inconvenienced.
I'm one:-) I ended up making a policy not to participate in such a
list and that has removed a lot of hassles for me. It usually is the
case also that someone who manages a list by mismanagement (using
features for things they were not designed to do) usually has other
management hang-ups that you end up tripping over as well. It shows
lack of understanding of how list management works.
[I'm not giving examples as this could become a very long
discussion. It fits on ListHelp or other list management forums. It
just doesn't work for me. I think it's a pity as it means I can not
join lists that are mismanaged, even if the topics are of interest as
here.]

Not even "I would use....."
What was wrong with that?
I am forever telling MY clients to go to a vet for this or that
diagnostic, test, procedure, surgery, etc....
None of which I am qualified to do as a homeopath and any/all of
which can be in the best interests of the client
(which is what drives all my cases).
It would be malpractice (in my book) not to do whatever I saw as best
interests of the client!
I think I am a member but I can't recall when last I saw a post there?
Maybe I got tossed or maybe the list is quiet?

Hi Shannon, Irene,
On homeopathy open one cannot give even in the mildest way any
suggestion for a remedy - any suggestion at all.

I was put on moderation because I urged someone to see a pediatrician
for the complaints of her baby.

So I got off again.

How about "beyondhomeopathy"?

Suriya has been pretty strict about not allowing any attacks on people
and on their views. And it "beyond" in the sense that it includes
homeopathy.

Well, the way it happened:

A mother was talking about the baby having fever. The list owner
chimed in saying: no advice as to hat to kake! or something.

I thought that the case should be diagnosed by a pediatrician, that it
was irresponsible not to do so. So I sent said: "sorry, but I do feel
I should say this, and I will - and I did.

I do not know what could have been wrong - but there you are.

Exactly!

Even though the mother was not my patient, I felt I had some
responsibility - and this weighed more than the prospect of being
kicked off the list:-)

The list has been very, very quiet for the last 6 months or so. I
thought that perhaps it had died, but lately there have been some
posts. So it should still be ok.

I certainly understand that principle, and I also would rather be
tossed off a list than violate one of my key principles.
Yahoo lists are set up so the owner has total say - and so list
tossings will occur on lists where the owner needs controls over
things we do not want controlled.

The well managed lists do not have that problem, nor allow bad
behavior. It is possible to have congtentious issues discussed
civilly, with respect for the people involved - even if there is
great dislike for their views. The views and the people are separate.

I always thought the difference was easy to see - so that one can
(politely) criiticize the views without any criticism of the person
who has the views.

But apparently some either do not see it or do not want to see it:-)
An innate constitutional type with a tendency to be nasty, is no
excuse either - that tendency need not be expressed in a forum of
professional respect. Goodness, one wonders how they treat their
clients............. It certainly would not attract the kind of
clients I get, nor would it attract me as one.
Looks fine, I see I am still an active member - just the list was quiet.
I have decided also, merely not to answer the emails of those who
twist words after changing their context, or who are plain rude.
Perhaps that was my lesson to learn here.

I am certain that is the reason why in court the attorney address each
other in that excessively formal, courtouous way.

Just imagine what would happen if they got at each other's throat the
way we do here:-)
