Okay, getting past my initial fit of giggles at Tanya's opening... )
I do think she's absolutely right, there is a conflict between whether
the list is to be used for personal gratification (having it "your
way"; showing how clever one is), or whether it's to be used for
building professional community. We need the community!!

There's also the matter of, what picture does this give to
*non*homeopaths coming through, what is it telling them about
homeopaths and homeopathy? Lately kind of embarrassing, in my
opinion...

Yes: supposed practitioners' proposals that homoeopathy authentically include fairy tales and fantasies does none of us any favours. There is, however, an alternative to continuing to embarrass homeopathy in that way, as I have proposed under "The campaign against spring fever, and an alternative". What do you think of it, Shannon -- does it fulfill your wishes?

Several points on this:
Doesn't everyone post to show how clever they are? (that was clever wasn't it...)

The recent exchanges have been mild IMO in comparison to some that went on years ago (anyone remember Hahnemannian's Hellboy?). I'm with Rik on this one (does that place me in the Rik, Joy corner? I'm honoured) in that passion is important, peer review is important, and political correctness has dumbed down so many areas of communication it would be a pity to lose that edge in homeopathy. The insults are sometimes fun to read - just as it's fun to read Hahnemann's insults of which there are many dotted through the literature. There is such a thing as going too far, though... (just being politically correct...no, really)

Can the moral tone be taken down a peg or two? (I suppose that was rather silly too...)

I think homeopathy deteriorated because of deterioration of training, practice and results, not because of muck slinging (in potency or otherwise).

If I remember correctly, that is exactly what Julian Winston said. That homeopathy declined because of training not because of the infighting.
