Hi Dale,

If you have the time, I would *love* to hear more of your observations
about his classes and his work!

Am I right in assuming that the key to that sort of precise prescribing
is a very good use of remedy "families", and now to narrow it further
to the specific rx? Do you know how his use of families (assuming I'm
right in my assumption) relates with Sankaran's and others'? It's an
area I would so love to understand better (and no way can do seminars
at this point--the time will come again, tho). Does he have any
particular book that you'd suggest as a starting place?

I started with his seminar series (the first is "Remaining in a Safe Environment: The Sea Remedies") and work through those before moving on to his later books. He usually gives a case or two for each remedy he analyzes, so you can see how the themes play out.
There are some themes he considers fundamental -- those define a "family". In his lexicon, a family is not necessarily the botanical family (he differs from Sankaran in that). So, for example, he'll refer to "Arnica-like remedies," which possess certain fundamental characteristics not found in all Asteraceae/Compositae. His mode of questioning is also less intrusive than Sankaran's sensation method.
It makes it easier to home in on a smaller group of remedies, but it's his deep understanding of each remedy -- how it looks, behaves, talks, etc. -- that makes it possible to prescribe with great precision. When you see a remedy he's taught in a patient of yours, the experience is amazing: suddenly you can see that person's past, present, and future all at once.

Fortunately, the quality is improving as the editors get better.
I don't know about any computer program with cases, either of his or his students. He has a clinical repertory that he offers free to his students. There is also Consulta, a case-management program, and Tesi, which I believe contains chemical, botanical, etc., info on a huge number of remedies. I don't use the latter two, but I do use the repertory (which works with MacRep) and find it nifty.
BTW, at his week-long seminars, he talks and does cases through the day, while some of his students present cases of theirs at night. Quite a demanding schedule and an intense experience!
