Anyone know if the antibiotic Augmentin has been potentized by any pharmacy in U.S. or Europe? A patient came to me for treatment of Lyme disease after having a severe reaction to Augmentin (profuse bleeding that wouldn't stop, joint pains). We thought the joint pains might be due to Lyme, but apparently persistent joint pains is a side effect of the drug. I'm thinking this patient might be a candidate for a little isopathic prescribing.

Re: Augmentin in potency?
This is a severe alldergic response which is no fun for the victim
adn can last many months - it is called an "Arthus reaction".
It is rather rare, most doctors never heard of it, but it is very
severe, and the victim oftebn can not stand or walk fromt eh joint
pain. It also messes with the metabolism in other ways that can FEEL
alarming - you might elicit information on that with cafrefjul
questions as the person having an Arthus response often fears being
told they are imagining things, as gthe fddlings are very hard to
describe - sometimes they say "I feel poisoned".
I do NOT think that in this case a potency of augmentin (the
allergen) will help because an Arthus reaction is about a damaged
immune system with badly skewed cytokines (too many Th-2 not enough
gh-1 b ut off hand I do not know if they have figured which specific
ones yet) , and it is NOT about the individual item (augmentin) that
happened to trigger the Arthus reaction. he Arthus reaction could
have had any number of possible triggers - it's the predisposition to
Arthus you need to handle.
That is - ANY allergen could trigger the Arthus reaction when the
immune system has this kind of damage (and it cvan happen again - he/
she needs to avoid new chemicals or foods at least for many months).
So in THIS case - I would go for a remedy to match the symptoms, and
I would include as a high-relevance rubric - "Periodic"
or "periodicity".
Arthus reactions usually work in waves of better and worse feeling
(ask to confirm) and also they are triggered by different things
(even if that has not yet happened in this instance) in succession -
more periodicity.
Joint pains are a major aspect of Arthus response, but the whole
metabolism is in uproar - solicit more about that as well i suggest.
No it is not a side effect of the drug, that would be a mistake. The
Arthus symptoms - like any allergic response - can vary a good deal
but the joint pain is almost universal. [Here is why I am still glad
I was in medical research in allergy at one stage! It comes in handy
in homeopathy
] It is a severe allergic reaction of a specific
rare type called Arthus reaction or Arthus response and joint pain is
one major aspect if not THE major aspect. So that is the path to
follow.....namely to undo this susceptibility due to immune system
damage.
That's the long term goal.
Also: I suggest you do first aid for allergic response (Huge dose
Vit C, huge doses pantothenic acid, high dose Vit B6, and balanced B
vits - all to help recover depleted adrenal function, from
manufactured purified sources with no excipients preferably - so as
NOT to introduce new "foods/chemicals" in the vitamin source),so
basically NO new chemicals/foods to prevent a recurrence or new
reaction while you are working on this one.Use USP Vit C crystals for
example, and for panto and B6, capsules are better than tablets for
less excipients. Not to scare, but another Arthus reaction soon
after the first can threaten life and allopathy has no clues once
they know it is Arthus reaction - they just throw prednisone at it
to suppress (which is deadly).
This is more involved than you thought I believe.
I wish you and them well.
Namaste,
Irene

Augmentin in potency?
Very interesting. Thank you, Irene. I'm sure the patient will appreciate the nutritional advice.
