remedies to store separately?

Post by Shannon Nelson »

There are a few remedies about which it's written that they should be
stored apart from other remedies, because they can either inactivate or
change the effects of remedies. I recall reading that about Camphor,
and see it also written about Banisteriopsis caapi, and I there there
are one or two others also?

Does anyone here have experience with that either happening or not
happening? (And I wonder, how close is "with", how far is
"separate"??? I'm hoping this is another of those myths...??)

Thanks,
Shannon

I think I heard that about plutonium.
It is a myth about camphor, I and others I know have kept it in the same remedy box with all the others.
I did just read it about Bani-C ... dunno what to believe.. it seems clear that even emailing about Ayahuasca or Bani-C gets a little something happening ;)

Another thing about camphor - JW once said that real camphor may be some kind of antidote for some Rx --but real camphor is pretty rare.. the stuff that you find in the drug store is something else.
While I'm at it .. I've never seen mint to be any kind of antidote, nor coffee.

Basically, the whole concept of antidoting a homeopathic Rx with any materials substance seems pretty far fetched to me and seems not to happen.
(sure, there will be someone, somewhere, sometime.)

I pretty much ignore anything about antidoting ... a Rx where there is enough susceptibility to get a reaction going, is imho going to keep going until the "medicinal disease" is replaced by a "stronger medicinal disease" ... meaning, you take a new case on the combination of new & troublesome symptoms plus remaining pre-existing symptoms ... and consider that you're just doing a fancy "zig-zag" toward cure.

Hi Dave,

A "story" about camphor. Way back when people wore the same clothes everyday and when they
got new clothes they wore them over the old clothes, it was said camphor was used as "pest control" and odor control. Have you heard about this?

Hi,
I had a patient who took one lick of a cheap candy cane and her whole
remedy picture went back to the beginning. Also, the remedy would not
work after that. :( She was a very sensitive individual and
basically I agree with you.
Best,
Ellen

while i agree that there is some controversy about this with some homepaths
ignoring the antidoting by penetrating smelling substances, i have seen coffee
antidote remedies--twice. once with myself when i inadvertently ate some real
coffee ice cream. the effects were pretty immediate. it felt like my whole sytem
was hit with a quiet boomerang. not really paying attention to this, i ate another
portion the next day and it was a whammy, completely undoing the good feeling
i was experiencing with the remedy i was on at the time. the second experience
was with a woman who was doing well on a remedy and then began to drink
coffee. the remedy

I think there might be some sense in certain substances spoiling a rx reaction if that rx is known to be inimical or antidotal to the potentised substance, say Coffea for example.

I have seen rx reaction spoil but to what extent one can be sure what has caused it is hard to say. Sudden trauma can wipe out a rx or more to the point a new diseased state takes over, which isn't quite the same thing.

There are a lot of stories around about Plutonium, for real I imagine, and one might think some of those 'heavy numbers' deep down in the periodic table might be troublesome but who knows. I have had provers accidentally and necessarily antidote their proving, seems to have worked but again mind over matter or what - no way of knowing really.

In storage though, and I have a huge stock, I cannot recall any problems as long as the rx are kept well. I wouldn't worry about it unless or until something causes you to think more about it.

Thanks Dave,
I'm encouraged by your experience with storing camphor in potency
without trouble!

Re the real stuff being rare, I would not that "rare" is relative term!
In some circles it's used for "ceremonial" sorts of purposes, and it's
definitely the "real" kind that is used for that. It's also used in
some topical salves, and even certain herbal medicinals (Ayurvedic
and/or Oriental, I think?) Personally, an accidental afternoon of
breathing in the refreshing fumes of burning camphor did not cause any
disturbance to my remedy, but i didn't go out of my way to see whether
a larger or longer exposure would have!

Re antidoting in general: My husband has several times undone a
well-acting remedy by drinking coffee. In his case the effect hasn't
been immediate, but it's been clear, and taken only perhaps a few days
to stop the action entirely, where normally it would have run for many
months longer.

OTOH I gather this is uncommon; and have read cases where
antidoting--clear and immediate--has happened after other more unusual
things:
lavender in her garden, her remedy action stops and needs repeating.
oil--tho I know many people use it with no problem.

It seems to be a very individual thing...

LOL, now that would have taken a LOT of camphor, way more than e.g.
what I'd inhaled that afternoon!

It reminds me of JW's explanation of why mint is mentioned as a
possible antidote. He said no need to worry about e.g. mint
toothpaste, mint chewing gum, etc. When H said "mint" in the Organon
as possible antidote (for Lyc, I think?), he referred to the practice
then used of covering the floor in mint as a way of (bug and?) odor
control?? Which would be a HUGELY greater exposure than anyone would
get these days!

Mm, now that is interesting!
I remembering being told that *sometimes* after an antidoting that can
happen, that the previously effective and apparently still needed
remedy won't work on re-dose. The speaker said that on the (possibly
only one?) occasion where that had happened to her, she gave the
patient a couple of other next-best remedies, which moved things along
a bit, then went back to the (apparently still indicated) first remedy,
and at that point it was again effective. Perhaps simple passage of
more time would have achieved the same? (Ellen, were you able to get
things moving again with your pt?)

I found Julian's explanation (attempted re-education!) re antidoting to
be plausible. Basically his view was the the *remedy* is never
antidoted--it's already long gone! It's exerted its effect, and been
extinguished. His view was that, when we view a remedy as having been
"antidoted" (e.g. the examples I gave), what happened is that the
"antidoting" substance is one that the person is sensitive / reactive
to, and it sufficiently distracted or disturbed their physiological
equilibrium (I'm trying out that term instead of "vital force"? :-)
), and caused it to sort of lose track of the remedy's guidance. (That
my attempt to paraphrase; I don't remember exactly how he put it.)

Below:
Generally I agree, but in some few cases the effect has been dramatic
and consistent enough to be considered causative.
Right, not the same thing--and from my understanding *either* may be
the case after sudden trauma. (Doesn't so much matter which, as in
either instance you have to "follow the case".)

Good to hear! I think that's just what I'll do.
:-)
