Croton tiglium

Crot-t.

Tiglium seeds; croton-oil seed
Characteristics
Is a valuable remedy in diarrhoea, cholera infantum
and skin affections. These may alternate with each
other. Feels tight all over. It is one of the
antidotes to Rhus poisoning, as is evident from its
wide and intense action upon skin and mucous
membranes, causing both irritation and inflammation, &
formation of vesicles and mucous discharges. Has
effective affinity for skin of face and external
genitals. Burning in oesophagus. 2 It has a peculiar
feeling as if parts were drawn backwards, eyes,
nipples, etc. Skin symptoms # internal symptoms,
diarrhoea, etc. 7 Great weakness, esp. of arms and
legs.
Mind
2 Feeling of anxiety; as if some personal misfortune
would befall him. Not disposed to work. Can't think
outside himself; feels all pent-up; 11 no chance for
thoughts to flow-out; as if hide-bound. Morose,
dissatisfied.
Vertigo
11 Dizziness and faintness & exhaustion and diarrhoea;
agg. open air.
Head
SE 5 Heat and heaviness of head, & soreness of eyes.
PA Pressing, in forehead, esp. orbits. Tensive, above
r. orbit. 2 Weight of hat = headache. 11 Worse in
morning. OB 4 Sweat on forehead; 11 after stool. 6
Eczema capitis of infants, either vesicular or
pustular, vesicles dry and desquamate leaving red, raw
and inflamed surfaces, sensitive to touch. 11 Boring
of head into pillow; fontanels sunken.
Eyes
SE Feel drawn backward; 5 feeling as if a string were
pulling eyeball back into head. PA 11 From pupil of l.
eye extending to back into head. Sticking. Stinging in
eyeballs. Sore, in eyeballs, when turning eyes.
Burning, in inflamed eye, & burning in ear, vertigo
and fainting. OB Granular lids; pustules on cornea.
Red and raw appearance; 2 purulent ophthalmia. 4
Oedematous swelling of eyelids [eyelids look puffed].
Opacity of cornea. Conjunctiva full of dark vessels.
Photophobia. 7 Copious lachrymation. 11 Conjunctivitis
pustulosa, eyes feel hot and burning, esp. at night;
face red and burning; feverish. Itching of eyelids.
Twitching of eyelids.
Ears
PA 7 Spasmodic, twinging, deep within l. ear. OB 2
Otorrhoea, when there is great itching.
Hearing - 11 Deafness.
Nose
PA 11 Burning in nostrils. OB 5 Eruption on r. side
of septum, followed by desquamation, & eruption about
nose.
Face
SE 2 As if insect were creeping over face. OB 2
Pustular eruption on face. 5 Vesicular eruption about
eyes, nose and mouth. Lips burning, dry and parched;
cracked. 11 Great pallor after stool. Sweat on face
after stool.
Mouth
SE 5 Taste nauseous and flat; 6 during stool. 11
Clammy and nasty taste. PA 2 Neuralgia of tongue. 11
Burning and smarting in mouth. OB 5 Vesicles on tongue
and in mouth. Tip of tongue very sensitive. 11
Irritation of salivary glands.
Throat
PA Burning in oesophagus. OB 5 Throat red, inflamed, &
swelling of submaxillary glands.
Food & drink
Vertigo agg. drinking. Copious watery stools agg.
drinking least quantity, or even while eating. 4 Colic
and diarrhoea immediately after nursing. 5 Hunger, &
rumbling in abdomen. Nausea agg. drinking. 8 Confusion
agg. bread. 11 Constant thirst. Vomiting and purging,
as soon as patient takes a drink. Colic amel. hot
milk. Vesicles on abdomen, confluent and form large
brown scabs, agg. after eating, amel. after sleep.
Diarrhoea from fruit and sweetmeats. Diarrhoea while
nursing. Complete loss of voice after drinking cold
water while overheated.
Stomach
SE 7 Of emptiness in stomach. Sinking in stomach, and
sensation of weakness. 11 Anguish, oppression and
pressure in stomach. PA 11 Burning. OB 2 Excessive
nausea; 5 & vanishing of sight. 5 Retching and
vomiting, amel. pressure. Stomach sensitive to touch.
11 Vomiting of ingesta. Vomiting of yellowish-white
frothy fluids.
Abdomen
SE Swashing [7 gurgling] sensation in intestines; 7 as
if only water in them; mostly on l. side. 7 Unpleasant
sensation of emptiness and hunger; rumbling in
abdomen. 11 Extreme coldness through entire abdomen, &
chilliness along spinal column downward, & nausea and
vomiting, followed by flushed feeling in head and
face. Bearing down in abdomen, as if everything was
relaxed. PA 4 Colic and diarrhoea immediately after
nursing. Colicky pain in transverse colon before every
stool. 11 Writhing, commencing in region of transverse
colon and gradually extending to downward through
whole intestinal canal. Griping colic and writhing
around umbilicus. Pressing in epigastrium and
umbilicus after stool. Sore, in abdomen, from cough.
OB 2 Pressure on navel = pain in rectum [5 anus] and
urging to stool; 11 on pressing on umbilicus with
hand, painful sensation is felt all along intestinal
canal to termination of rectum, causing latter to
protrude. 4 Urticaria of skin of abdomen. 5 Flatulent
distension, & rumbling, then urging to stool, followed
by sudden watery stool; 2 then prostration. 7 Abdomen
full and distended, & griping pain about navel.
Rectum
SE 2 Pain in anus as if a plug were forcing outwards.
7 Dragging in anus, as if diarrhoea would easily
ensue. PA 5 Burning in anus. OB Copious watery stools,
& much urging; always forcibly shot out, & gurgling in
intestines; agg. drinking least quantity, or even
while eating. Constant urging to stool, followed by
sudden evacuations. 2 Summer diarrhoea. Cholera
infantum. 4 STOOLS POURING OUT LIKE WATER FROM A
HYDRANT. Diarrhoea & nausea and vomiting. 5 Diarrhoea
& pain following colon down to rectum. 7 Evacuation
sudden, & much flatus. Stool very thin, like yellowish
water, forcibly evacuated. 11 Stools occur suddenly,
one gush and it is finished; great prostration after a
passage. Each stool seems to "drain child dry," but
notwithstanding, very little prostration. Stool: dark
green; tenacious, mucous; watery, mixed with whitish
flakes.
Urinary
PA 4 Burning in urethra when urinating. OB Night urine
foaming; dark orange colour; turbid on standing;
greasy particles floating on top. Day urine is pale, &
white sediment. 11 Increased secretion of [turbid]
urine. Blood-red urine, exhibiting a quantity of mucus
at bottom of vessel, which is drawn into threads by
shaking.
Male
PA 7 Corrosive itching pain in scrotum; agg. walking;
redness of part. OB 2 Eczema of scrotum; 11 & itching
agg. at night. Vesicular eruptions on scrotum and
penis. Left testicle retracted, right pendant. 7
Frequent corrosive itching on glans and scrotum.
Scrotum shrivelled, itching severely, disturbing the
sleep; amel. scratching, which, however, causes a
voluptuous sensation.
Female
PA Drawing, through l. breast into back; 6 as if a
string was tied to nipple and drawing it backward,
causing her to walk the floor, often day and night.
Nursing women; every suck the child gives = pain from
nipple to back [11 scapula of same side]. 2 Nipples
very sore to touch. OB Inflamed breasts; 2 breasts
hard, swollen. 2 Intense itching of genitals, amel.
gentle rubbing. Nodes in mammae; & pain from nipple to
scapula.
Larynx
OB 11 Hoarseness and hollow voice, obliging him to
hawk constantly. Accumulation of rattling mucus in
larynx.
Respiration
Asthma, & cough; can't expand the chest; sensitive to
deep breathing; 2 feels as if he could not inhale
deeply enough. 4 Feels suffocated from coughing; must
walk about the room or sleep in a chair [for fear of
coughing].
Cough
As soon as he touches pillow; must get up. 11 In
morning and evening.
Chest
SE 7 Of fulness in both sides of chest, & burning
stitches in l. thorax, extending to both scapulae. 11
Chest as if hollow, as if everything was hanging down.
PA 11 Drawing, through l. pectoral region into back.
OB 11 Accumulation of rattling mucus in chest, which
is painful to touch.
Heart
PA 4 Stitches in region of heart during expiration. OB
4 Palpitation prevents him from going to sleep. 11
Palpitation, & difficulty of breathing, esp. on going
up stairs. Pulse frequent and full.
Back
PA 11 Stitches in region of kidneys, arresting
breathing.
Upper
PA 2 Shoulders and neck painful. 11 Sticking or
aching, in shoulder-joints. Tearing, shooting, in l.
arm, from shoulder to elbow and back of hand, &
swelling of shoulder and whole arm; inability to move
the limb or lie down; agg. at night, preventing sleep,
but if rest be obtained, he awakes relieved, but least
attempt to stir = pain to reappear with great
violence; arms becomes paralyzed and feels like a very
heavy weight.
Limbs
SE 11 Bruised feeling through whole body.
Lower
PA 11 In soles of feet c great toe, & sensation as if
it had been sprained; agg. afternoons and touch; veins
on dorsum of foot swollen; between swollen veins, red
patches which don't disappear on pressure.
Lancinations in big toes; pricking in toes. OB 7
Coldness of feet, extending as far up as calves.
Sleep
11 Irresistible desire to sleep.
Chill
11 Chilliness of back.
Heat
5 General heat not marked. 11 Aversion of heat on
body. Flushes. Heat and fever accompanying cutaneous
eruption.
Sweat
11 During stool.
Skin
Feels hide-bound; 2 tense. Intense itching; but
scratching is painful; 2 amel. gentle rubbing.
Pustular eruption, esp. on face and genitals, &
fearful itching, followed by painful burning.
Vesicles; confluent, oozing; 11 forming a grey brown
crust. Vesicular erysipelas, itching excessively.
Herpes zoster; stinging, smarting pain. Eruptions;
pustular, vesicles, clustered; which burst and form
crusts, agg. genitals, temples, vertex. Eczema; 4 OVER
WHOLE BODY. 4 Vesicles on skin, & yellow, plastic
exudation, that burns like fire. 5 Eruption of
vesicles, surrounded by inflammation, & great itching.
7 Red, moist spots, exuding an offensive moisture, on
l. thigh, opposite scrotum, painfully sore to touch,
and on walking. 11 Pure idiopathic eczema, such as
usually appears in children. In eczema, not so
beneficial in adults as in children.
Modalities
Worse: DRINKING; least food. Washing. Summer. Touch.
Motion. Receding eruptions. 1 Night and morning. 4
Fruit. Sweetmeats. Scratching. Lying down. Better:
After sleep. Gentle rubbing.
9 Many of the symptoms of Crot-t. spread from below
upwards. Open air agg. dizziness and faintness.
Drinking cold water while heated = complete loss of
voice.

[faintness during stool; stools not scanty]; Bor.,
Bry., Phel. and Sil. [pains in breast; 4 Sil. pain
from the nipple through to the back when nursing];

[faintness during stool; scanty stools]; Elat.; Euph.;
Gamb.; Grat.; Jatr.; Mez.; Nux-v. [faintness after
stool]; Phos.; Rhus-t.; Ric.; Verat.;Thuj.; 4 Aloe,
Arg-n., Ars., Chin., Ferr., Kali-br., Phos. and Sulph.
[chronic diarrhoea of infants]; 1 Anag.; Mom-ch. [has
marked drastic properties, producing colic, nausea,
vomiting, cholera-like symptoms, abdomen seems full of
fluid discharged explosively, thin, watery, yellow;
great thirst]; Sep.; 6 Par. [drawing backward of eye
as by a string; Paris due to overuse of eyes; Crot-t.
