Hahnemann and Changes

One of the things that drew me to homeopathy was the emphasis on cure, on attaining optimum health, and on knowing that in many situations we can treat effectively and rapidly without antibiotics - so there's less fear of common diseases as we know there is something we can do about it. The purpose of treatment as set out in aphorism 9 of the Organon sets the direction (anyone notice how most of us only quote the first aphorisms of the Organon?!), and it's a positive life-affirming one.

Modern society is governed by fear - the whole vaccination epidemic is IMO an epidemic of fear that has been raging through western society for at least 100 years. Sometimes the fear is easier to understand - e.g. in the time of polio etc. - but when people have become fearful of ordinary flu for fear of losing a week's work it's out of hand.

Golden's schedule, although it seemed "professional-sounding" when I looked at it first, seems to play on those fears in exactly the same way allopathy does. The concept of homeoprophylaxis is always something I understood to apply to when the epidemic is at the gate, taking symptoms and giving appropriate remedies to the community at risk - not as a parallel to the conventional vaccination schedule. But society buys into the "homeopathic" version of the conventional vaccination schedule as the "responsible" way to go alternative, when the schedule isn't given homeopathically at all.

Recently a "friend" suggested that as a homeopath I should cash in on the swine flu scare by offering homeopathic prophylaxis. I gave the suggestion the attention it deserved (i.e. "I'll pretend you didn't suggest that"). But he knew people would be interested and he's probably right. People are addicted to fear and are willing to buy into it more than they are open to buying into health. I just think it would be sad if homeopaths join in the vaccination epidemic, instead of being clear about the homeopathic vision of dis-ease and health.

Well - I wonder whether this big group, which kept growing and
probably outnumbered the others after a while, was
comprised of none but '"irrational minded practitiones".

I also wonder whether it was rational that most of them did not accept
Hahnemann's findings in the Chronic Diseases. - The historians seem to
agree that most of them did not.

That was hardly the reason, since those other healing modalities were
added only in the 6th edition. The exception was mesmerizing and -
somewhat equivalent - the "touching/massage" by a "good-hearted
(gutmütig) person, where even this was much shorter in the previous
(5th) edition (I do not off-hand know whether this was in the 1st
edition or when it was added)

From the 2nd edition onward the Organon was called: Organon der
Heilkunst (Organon of the Healing Art). Heilkunst in those days meant
Therapy, to differentiate it from "Heilkunde", which meant medical
theory, which, afair, was the name of the 1st edition (Source for that
is Michael Emmans Dean)

Could you say more about that? I admit I have not done any research
into the matter. Where was it successfully applied? (I only know about
the unsuccessful attempt against scarlet fever, of which H. said that
it was not "das glatte Sydenhamsche Scharlach sondern "die Frieseln""

Well, I did not actually mean Golden's work, of which I know very
little.

I was referring to what Did Ananda posted about the apparently very
successful attempt in Cuba, of which I hpe that it will be replicated
for other epidemics in other countries.

Looking at that against the historical background:

It was unlawful , not only in Saxony but in most, possibly all of the
German kingdoms or whatever they were, to self-dispense - i.e. that
was not only for homeopaths and not only in Saxony. This had been so,
has been so and still is in Germany.

Hahnemann wanted and exemption to this and did not get it anywhere but
in Koethen.
