Re: Emergency for cat
did they check the mouth for any problems such as inflammed gums or
abcesses? broken teeth? etc.
i ran into this in previous years and thought it was a stomach problem but it
was the mouth that was hurting--in my case my cat had a huge canker sore
in the palate that made eating painful.
if there is a stomach problem, is it due to excess acid which can cause nausea?
i wound up using an enzyme product by dr. goodpet which was very stable under
high acid/alkaline conditions. it worked very well with my puss.

Re: Emergency for cat
Hi Gisela,
There are a lot of remedies in this rubric in Radar, but here you are
dealing with a cat phenomenon - namely that if they lack animal
protein for more than 4 hrs they start going into ketosis, and it is
aggravated by illness. Soon after that they lose the ABILITY to
digest food, and so they do not necessarily lack appetite - just the
contrary - they are very hungry, but they know that their system will
not digest it, so they can not swallow it for THAT reason.
Such sick cats MUST be hand-fed as an addition to the regime. I
suggest using Hills Science DIET A/D (ANOREXIA DIET) PASTE canned
food, MIXED 50/50 with pedialyte or water - usually pedialyte is
better, use half/half if in doubt.
I HATE that brand in general (all their other food is toxic waste in
my book) but this specific food does save lives.
Start feeding one teaspoon every half hour till you can spread it out
into 5 teaspoons every 2 hrs, and so on.
Add glutamine (amino acid powder) to the food, to help in protein
metabolism.
Depending hnow long the cat has not eaten enough, it may also not be
drinking enough. It is better to err on the side of hydration and to
then also give the cat Sub-Q fluids perhaps twice a day, 50 or 100 ml
of lactated ringers in a "tent" of the skin by the neck scruff. Be
SURE to warm the fluid first to at least body temp (102F) or a bit
higher, not lower.
So by all means you need the simillimum - but you also need this
feeding regime due to the feline high protein issues.
The 50/50 fluid/ad is aLSO to help the hydration and food absorption
issue.
So maybe select your rubrics with this feline issue in mind too, such
as "hunger but can not eat" (I do not remember the exact wording but
something to that effect) , and or "ravenous but losing
weight" (wording may use marasmus or emaciation) and so on. The cat
symptoms are not an exact match to these human rubrics but to meet
feline needs and "translate" to human (the way a cat would be if it
had human metabolism) - those are the main two I would suggest, and
also "dryness of usually moist internal parts" rubric.
Good luck!
Namaste,
Irene
