Someone once said that Britain was a nation of Nat Murs and they were probably right, surrounded as the isles are by all the sea water and with the typical british nature being that of stiff upper lip, complaining but not particularly pro-active, i.e. hanging on to grievances - so come to britain and you'll see Nat mur everywhere :-)

Sankaran places Nat mur allied to the chlorine/halogen group (1A) if that helps.

Briefly, he mentions the disappointment, sense of betrayal, lost romance, lost trust and faith. Always feeling that emotional hurt is just around the corner they develop a sense of reserve and distance so as to try and avoid being hurt. As if to add substance to that distance, as if to justify it they feel they look bad, not attractive or that they haven't done enough, not been dutiful enough so no-one will want to be with them anyway. Again, on top of that there is a feeling of insecurity as though something will be stolen from them, taken away (same as losing the trust and faith) and hence you get the 'searching for thieves' state that is mentioned in the MM's.

They shut themselves off, cling to bad ideas (which prevents sleep) and by clinging to these bad things they then plan revenge which is another way of distancing themselves form people, they become thoroughly unsociable - 'silent and one sided'. They blame both others and themselves for all that is bad in their life, become quite bitter. Keeping this all within catarrhal states soon develop as well as oedema (think of water retention when you add salt and water together - retention being the theme of hanging on to grievances and not being able to cry). Herpetic eruptions are the salty expression of being depressed and introverted.

Initially though you will see in Nat mur a great sense of duty to the point of being rigid, literally a pillar of salt. This pillar of salt crumbles eventually due to the disappointment or grief. So dependent on structures are they that they collapse when the structures collapse. He says they 'nourish grief', hang on to it.

Sankaran rightly says it resembles Sepia and it is quite easy to see the acutes of Ignatia and Bryonia there as well.

Hope that helps. Joy
