Re: Mastitis after blood donation?
Seems possible, yes. But in that case, do I need to antidote it?

I think you ned to control the infection which can impact on blood sugars. An ultrasound of the breast might help you to know exactly what you are dealing with, Best Wishes Jean
Re: Mastitis after blood donation?
I don't know. Maybe someone with experience in this area
can comment.
Have you thought about contacting your homeopath as there seem
to be several things going on that need to be sorted out. (Possible infection, diabetic/blood sugar not stable, chronic mastitis, etc.)

Re: Mastitis after blood donation?
Are the mastitis and the rash still improving, and is your blood sugar
stability showing any signs of improvement? It seems to me that "in
theory" it could be *any* of aggravation or proving, or simply the
"stress" and infection. But I'd assume that any of these three should
improve as everything else does?
Do you have any current symptoms pointing to phos ac? If so, could be
worth seeing whether a 12c or 6c could be any help?

Celia,
You need to read up on lymphocytic mastitis and diabetic mastopathy, which will help explain your chronic tendency. This condition is found often in women with Type 1 Diabetes as well as males. The lesions in the breast tissue, can be perivascular, periductal and perilobular, made up of infiltrates of small predominantly B (unusual) lymphocytes, and so lymphoepithelial lesions.
Because this is not caused by lactation issues, when choosing a remedy, one would need to be addressing the diabetes as base cause, and remedies that address keloid-like fibrosis/sclerosis and hopefully in this regard, ones that have an affinity maybe for the breast tissue.
I did read somewhere that there had been a reported case of ‘regression’, which is a positive report showing what is possible.
If you have a program like EH you can do a search with eg., diabetes, mastitis, fibrosis, or other search parameters and you will find remedies that have all three.
One that could be worth looking at for at least the relief aspect, would be Conium. Seeing that Phytolacca did not help with the induration, often Conium will. I would suggest a low potency, eg., 6C although Ramakrishnan seems to use 200C when he uses it in his treatments.
But for the secondary to Insulin dependent Diabetes fibrotic changes to the tissue of the breast, there are others that can also be considered. Eg., Sil, Graph, Fl-ac, Calc-fl.
Bryonia is the first remedy I think of for mastitis that is related to lactation and interestingly, it also comes up positive for all three – diabetes, mastitis, and fibrosis.
It is thought that if these changes are occurring in the breast tissue, there is also a possibility of this kind of process occurring in other tissues and organs of the body, which you would be aware of most likely, and must keep at bay.
I hope you find something to help with this Celia.

Subject: [Minutus] Mastitis after blood donation?
I'm getting *WAY* out of my depth on this and could use some help thinking this through.
On Friday I donated blood for the first time ever. On Saturday, I very suddenly developed mastitis on the same side (left) that the blood was taken. Hardened area in breast, shooting pains (upon pressure) into nipple, also pain referred around to my back.
I've got a history of mastitis (neither side predominates in this), even though I haven't nursed for about 8 years. I've been told that I have polyps in my milk ducts, which started producing dark (soy sauce colored) blood from some ducts upon expressing milk, beginning about 10 years ago (during my last pregnancy).
I've never been particularly successful at treating the mastitis homeopathically. I've tried Phyt. several times before, as it seemed to be the closest fit, but without much benefit. Usually expressing of milk to clear the ducts and the application of heat is what clears it up.
Well, this time, with the mastitis coming on in such a pronounced correspondence with the blood donation, it seemed like there might be a link, and repping this I came up with Phos. Ac. Unfortunately, I have this remedy only in 1M, but I gave it a try anyway Saturday night, one dose. After a few hours with no improvement, I tried Phyt. 30C, one dose, again with no improvement.
By Sunday night, there was still no improvement, even after trying my usual methods (expression and heat). Expression was also more than usually difficult. So I tried another remedy that had come up in my repping efforts: Rhus Tox. 6X, one dose.
By Monday night, the pain was less sharp, but there were still hard areas (indurations?) in the breast. I have also been having *huge* issues with my blood sugar (type I diabetic on an insulin pump) since Sunday night--my blood sugar is swingly from very low to very high and back without much rhyme or reason. Tuesday morning (today), I developed a somewhat itchy rash on my left forearm, small raised dots, slightly pinker than my skin, running from the blood donation site (crook of arm) to my wrist. I have no known allergies to latex (or to anything except penicillin and sulfa). I had only minor bruising at the donation site. Tonight the rash seems to be starting to spread up my arm, while the mastitis continues the same as on Monday night. No other remedies have been taken and no warm applications made since Sunday night.
I'm at a serious loss here. Am I proving the Rhus Tox. with this rash (although that seems highly unlikely, more than a day after a single dose!), or is the rash a new symptom altogether? Is it a result of the remedies pushing things out (even though the masititis isn't really a lot better), or could it be a development as a consequence of the blood donation (despite coming several days after)? Have any of you seen such freaky symptoms in response to a blood donation? I have no idea what to do next at this point!

Re: Mastitis after blood donation?
Wow, thanks for this info, Robyn!
Oddly, Bryonia was something I considered early on, but I decided against it because the mastitis came on so quickly, and I seem to remember Bryonia being a slow-onset remedy.
The mastitis and rash do seem to be improving at this point, so I will probably just wait for now to see where things go.

Everything seems to be getting better at this point, so whatever it was, it's going away. Very strange!
Thanks for the input, Shannon!

Unfortunately, for the time being, I am my own homeopath. We live in Midwest middle-of-nowhere, and I would have to drive hours and hours to get to where a "real" homeopath is.

Hi Celia,
Maybe not so strange.
In the light of what Robyn wrote, the Phos ac. may have addressed the
basic diabetic state and the reactiions just may have been part of a
healing process.
