Hi Sue,
***********
Yes indeed, the 200C was way too high & set up a proving situation as
Paul said. I use 30s + Calendula 6s very similarly to Rochelle pre &
a couple of times after the op. This is how I prescribe it. I then go
on to Calendula 6 tds to heal any wound. I've been prescribing this for
years without any mishap!!
*************
Ok. But Hahnemann's recommendation for provings was to use the 30c. OK, he
also recorded toxic doses in his materia medica pura, but the 30c can prove.
Not to mention mental effects. The proving by Sherr for Hydrogen showed mroe
mentals for the lower potency than the higher potency.
My basic point is not to take anything for granted, especially the often
quoted "homeopathy is totally safe" hymn. Same for colloidal silver, ozone
or oxygen therapy etc. Too much misinformation is passed on until it becomes
general knowledge.
regards,
Paul

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
An experience from my family:
Husband needed a series of operations. Part way through I discovered homeopathy and my then homeopath prescribed for him Arnica 30C pre ( a couple of doses) and post-op. Could not be easily anaethetised. Anaethetised commented to him with surprise while he was still awake about the amount of anaesthetic he was having to use. Following surgery he literally bruised neck to knee. Arnica is not 'safe' to use routinely pre-op, especially when the patient's sensitivity to it is unknown.

Hi Paul,
*
es, but in the old provings the effects of provings in the potencies
are usually very mild.
The only exception I have found so far is the proving by Hering of
Lachesis.
I wish I knew the reason why in the modern provings there are such
severe effects from one dose of a high potency. I also wish I could
get at some of the smptoms of the placebo groups - whether those
effects do not occur there also.

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
Hi Luise,
A few factors are probably at least part of the reasons:
- the nature of the remedies being proved?? I'm only speculating
here, and it would be interesting to have a list of those remedies
where this occurred. One that comes to my mind is plutonium
nitricum--an intense substance, and perhaps not surprising that it
produced intense symptoms. Another was from the blood of a wounded
eagle, and I wonder if there wasn't an aspect of personal sensitivity
to the substance at issue, since that person had done other provings
without any mishap--but said after the eagle proving that she intended
never to do another.
Do you happen to know what some others
were?
- Today's prover population is probably a more sensitive and less
robust population than the ones in the old provings?
- Also I think they tend to be *bigger* groups, which would presumably
allow greater variety in the intensity...?
And, am I mistaken in thinking that even still, severe and/or lasting
effects are uncommon in provings?

Hi Shannon,
So would I - anyone know more?
Not reall (see below)
I wonder. We do not know about the state of health of the earl
provers, of course -- but generally speaking, from reading the general
state of health in those days, it does not seem to be all that good,
comparatively. Of course, we read onl about patients:-)
Yes - but the intense symptoms would be included, no?
I really do not know. Long ago, but you were on, there was a
discussion on Lyghtforce. Ingrid (Highbottom) from Sweden (I think it
was Sweden, anyway one of the Scandinavian countries) talked about
provings she had taken part of. I think they were Jeremy Sherr's.
According to her that had been quite dramatic - not only for herself
but generally.

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
Hi Shannon,
I found out he was constitutional when treating him in acute - then he was getting 30 and 200. As soon as he took the remedies he reported fast improvement, but also reported an incredible sense of wellbeing that filled his entire being after taking the remedy the first time, even before physical improvement. This guy was a total cynic and had previously refused homeopathy - he only took in the acute because he was desperate.
Subsequently treated him in lower potencies for constitutional and could really see that the remedy was a very good fit. I'm not sure what potency he took before the root canal, but he didn't do much repetition, maybe once or twice the day before the treatment. He wasn't prone to bleeding, he'd had a lot of dental work done and this was part of a whole program, so his dentists really didn't understand what was going on.

Vera

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
Isn't that back to front? How i see it:
The warfarin interfered with her arnica healing.
I disagree, and it is based on experience in surgery of about 5000
animal cases.
There were no deaths from shock, an amazing statistic - all because
Arn 200C, one dose, was given before surgery.
Bleeding was a non-issue, but if it had been a tendency then in
modern surgery, cautery is a simple thing to use and is always at hand.
What Arnica is needed fro before surgery - is prevention of the 2% or
so of deaths during anesthetic due to shock - or any other causes of
shock.
I would never skip it before surgery! It keeps the patient alive:-)

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
Lots of people can not be easily anesthetized - with or without arnica.
It has a correlation with blood type for example.
The casual "couple of doses" and the spreading out of them, I would
not use. A single 200C dose close to surgery time is good to prevent
shock.
I think homeopaths have the wrong end of the stick - Arn is good for
shock prevention during surgery -
it is not a bleeding issue that matters greatly here - but a life
preserving one.

But you have missed the point, Irene.
This was one of a series of operations for a particular problem. His response to the anaesthetic, and the bruising that followed, was very different to the his response to the operations that preceded or followed.

Re: Well here's a new one!!!!! More!!
Perhaps - Not so much missed the point as did not address it while
adding a new point regarding "shock".
How I see it:
Arn 30C is very unsuitable for shock prevention - you need at least
200C, and no repetition without symptoms.
Also, multiple doses will ASK for aggravation. So I would not use Arn
the way it was used there.
Presumably if someone is known to be sensitive to a specific remedy
one would act accordingly.
I mentioned the 5000 or so cases as that is statistically very
significant with no deaths - so it shows that routine use of 200C can
and does prevent many deaths which otherwise would occur during surgery.
That statistic alone makes "routine" use of a single 200C dose of Arn
well worth while in my view, for surgery cases (unless one
specifically knows of a sensitivity of corse).
I'd rather see the VERY rare case of bruising than the much less rare
case of shock death.
