Crotalus horridus

Post by Shannon Nelson »

Does anyone have information on the M/E picture of crotalus horridus--a picture that is not about end-stage or poisoning picture, but rather a chronic, constitutional-type picture? Has anyone here successfully used it for a chronic picture?
Thanks,
Shannon

Dear Shannon

I used it with my mother in law successfully when she was accusing everyone of stealing from her as part of her Alzheimer's. Got the picture from Vermeulen 2. Do you have this book?

I have it on my own computer, which is at home, where I am not! :-)
That fits, tho...
Any info on how it might show in a young, relatively healthy person?

Rochelle
--------------------

Lachesis. Phosphorus. Arsenicum. Belladonna. Carbo vegetabilis. Baptisia.
Secale.
Comparisons:
->Differential diagnosis with Lachesis.
Crotalus and Lachesis have the following similar symptoms:
->An aggravation on waking [after sleep] - Lachesis more so.
->Intolerance for tight clothing [especially around the neck] - Lachesis
more so.
->Both are haemorrhagic remedies: Crotalus is more so.
->Both have blueness of the parts: Lachesis more so.
->Both have yellowness and jaundice, Crotalus more so.
->Both are loquacious, Crotalus mumbles and stumbles and can talk to
him/herself in a low, passive way. Lachesis talks fast, is more lucid and
finishes other peoples sentences and stories [Crotalus can do this too],
tells stories and is more wild and excited.
->Both talk of death, only Lachesis is more scared, Crotalus more
apathetic.
->Both have a sense of constriction, of tightness around the throat with
difficulty swallowing. Crotalus has difficulty swallowing solids, Lachesis
has more difficulty with fluids than solids [and more difficulty still with
empty swallowing than with fluids].
->They can both have one-sided symptoms. Crotalus is more right-sided;
Lachesis is more left-sided.
->Crotalus has a cold, dry skin [esp. cold extremities]; Lachesis has a
cold, clammy skin.
->Crotalus is Both have trembling of the tongue when protruding it; Lachesis more so.

CIRCULATION. BLOOD. Liver. Throat. Nerves. * RIGHT SIDE.

MSocial.
Of the socially adjusted snake remedies [Lach., Cench., Crot-c.,
Crot-h.], Crotalus horridus is the most social. They can strongly resemble
Phosphorus, with fear of thunder and lightning. They are very sympathetic.
They can probably do without company. Crot-h. is not very aggressive. They
are generally submitted to a strong person. [Mangialavori]
OR: Aversion to family members.
A combination of the two is that they feel they must help, but actually
do not want to. In that case, the family is seen as a duty they can't avoid.
The sense of persecution then issues from the idea that they are obliged to
be social and maintain family contact. [Mangialavori]
MSYMPATHETIC # DICTATORIAL.
MLoquacity.
"With Lachesis the loquacity is so rapid that if any one in the room
commences to tell something, the patient will take it up and finish the
story, though he has never heard about it. No one is permitted to finish a
story in the presence of a Lachesis patient. Crotalus does that too, but he
will take it up and mumble, and jumble and stumble over his words ... a low
passive state like intoxication; in Lachesis it is wild excitement." [Tyler]
MExtreme sensitiveness.
Easy moved to tears; by reading.
MDelusions: surrounded by hideous animals; surrounded by
enemies.
Horrible dreams of murder, death, dead bodies; even the smell of the
cadaver is dreamed of.
Fights [in dreams] with enemies and with animals. [Dorcsi]
"One patient of mine felt she was shut in somewhere against her will and
spent her life trying to escape, which is a feature of Crot-h. behaviour."
[Blackie]
Dreams of dead people during [septic] throat inflammations.
MIrritability.
"Crotalus patients are mentally very snappish and irritable. They are so
ugly in their temperament that they greatly resemble Nux-v.; only in Nux-v.
the same degraded state of vitality as in Crotalus is wanting. They get
almost furious at the slightest annoyance." [Choudhuri]
Yet less aggressive than Lachesis.
GAppearance.
"Crot-h. appears to affect fat persons more than thin, and white people
more than coloured." [Jahr]
MIND: Answers disconnected [2]. Anxiety & cold perspiration [2].
Aphasia after apoplexy [3]. Aversion to members of family [2]; to his own
mind [1/1]; to certain persons [1]. Thoughts of death [2]. Delusions of
animals [2]; of being surrounded by enemies [2]; of being on a journey [1].
Dullness # vivacity [1/1]. Ecstasy in morning on waking [1/1]. Forgetfulness
of well-known streets [2]. Loquacity [1]. Mistakes in writing in old age [2];
& vertigo [2]. Somnambulism [1]. Suspicious [2]. Weeping when questioned [1];
while reading [2].

I have used it in Idiopathic purpura in a young woman who tended often to let the family know she was unhappy by rumbling and grumbling ??[/ the rattles of a rattle snake] Have also used it in infections . One I particularly remember was around the R ear. Jean

Hi Tanya

If you go to the source of that rubric:
Allen, TF

from prover a5 : Schmoler
and the proving symptom: - For several days, a certain dread of selecting remedies, which usually is an agreeable occupation, [a5].
Without any further info, one can only speculate eg., that Schmoler was maybe a homeopath.
