UCL debate in London - my response to Dana is now on the Internet

Dear colleagues,

You may recall my response (shown below) to Dana Ullman's request for information on
the UCL debate on homeopathy in London (digest 4853 of 23 October 2008).
I want to tell you that my response to Dana now appears verbatim on David Colquhoun's
CD Improbable Science on the homeopathy section.
My question is, how did DC get hold of this, considering that this is meant to be a closed
forum for professional homeopaths? I have also emailed Dana to ask for his opinion.
Should we assume that this group has been infiltrated? Or is there another explanation?

PS. Just for your information, and for those who may have infiltrated this group, DC has
today written to me with two apologies, for having posted my photo on his website
without consent, and for misquoting me by publishing something that I had not said, as
well as accusing my husband wrongly. On reflection, it would have been more damaging
for him had I written directly to his manager at UCL to complain about his disgraceful
behaviour; as it stands he has got away with it rather lightly - not that he will publish any
of this on his website. I may however, choose to publish my email exchanges with him
today.

Is there anything one can do about that?
The list has had similar things happen numerous times. I think it's
always been done by "skeptics" (hah, what a misnomer) so they could
have some "fresh meat" to kick around.

You should know that Minitus is trolled by members of the group working to remove homeopathy from the NHS. This is NOT a closed group by any means and everyone should post accordingly.

i dont think it would be hard to put out false information in order to
join this group. for people as rabid as DC it would mean nothing to him
to set up a false identity to join the group and then lurk quietly,
gathering
information at will.

his bodaceous theft of material is another story and perhaps he should be
reported in press and to his institutions. why be so nice--he isn't!

I have to say, this is quite a bold step for DC to take - it gives evidence that he or his
associates are trolling this group and shamelessly copying and publishing our
communications on his website.
I could have already complained formally about him this week, as he published my photo
on his website without consent, plus misquoted me on something that I did not say, but
he has (very quickly) emailed to apologise on both accounts, and has withdrawn the photo
plus the quote, plus a website apology for both. Will be interesting to see how long he
leaves the apology there. I will be regularly checking, DC!!!.
Quite a childish type of behaviour when one talks with him on the phone, with a kind of
half apologetic laughter. The point is, whether I want to waste time and engage with such
negative energy, in pursuing this type of behaviour with his superiors. I guess that Prof.
Start at UCL must be so fed-up with complaints, and probably wishing him out of the
Department as we speak. DC is already weaving enough rope to hang himself nicely, so I
will just leave him to it. Anyone interested in my email communications with him this
week, email me off list and I will share. Grace

I think it's very likely that all kinds of people have 'infiltrated' this group. When I joined this forum, I simply signed up - no-one asked me for my credentials! And I have noticed some very strange e-mails asking very naive 'layman's' questions - how did these people join the group? And who are they? Could they be trying to trap us into giving advice without examining them in the flesh, so to speak?
To contrast this, let me tell you what I found when I tried to join a French homeopathic e-group some time ago. I explained that I was a lay, professional, fully-trained homeopath but I got a very nice reply from the group moderator, who said he would put my request to the other members of the management, he did not expect them to grant me membership as this was reserved for medical professionals. To join, I would have to have sent something like a prescription form to show that I was really a medically trained professional. Needless to say, my request for membership was refused.
So if we want to keep 'dodgy' people out, we need to tighten up on our membership criteria.
