Hi Dave, I have just spent some interesting time going through my client
lists and noting the extraordinary amount times I have prescribed Lyc. over
the years. Scanning a handful of these cases what stands out is the lack of
concern about their so called 'lack of vital heat.' It is almost as if it is
a 'natural state' for them, a comfortable one and not obviously part of the
diseased state. This is the case even when their complaints have included
such circulatory conditions as varicose veins and heamorrhoids. The emphasis
has always been "I cannot stand being too hot" - "I have to leave a hot
stuffy room" - "I really don't like the sun" - "Give me a cool day any
time," etc.
Amongst these cases I found 2 which were prescribed Lyc. for the chill upon
chill, feeling of icy coldness, s.a.i. lying on ice state. This is
extremely unusual or at least strong enough sx to prescribe on, they are sx
which lead the case. Every other case were presenting with digestive and
liver disorders where the chilly temp. modalities were not evident - quite
the reverse.
For me it has to do with grading and small type 'craves air but is chilled
by it' (in respiratory conditions) doesn't get as many underlines as bold
upper case generally <<< WARMTH, or italics 'craves everything warm.'
So for me Lyc. is much more warm than cold physically - emotionally, well
that's another matter. Usually very cold emotionally! At the end of the day
it possibly won't be the temperature that will lead you to the rx.
One's own experience has to be worth something in the learning curve.
Regards, Joy.

Re: Lyc.
Dear Joy and Dave,
I have to say that it is the digestive symptoms that have led me to Lyco. I
wouldn't give it if they were not!! In the patient that started all this
discussion he did have the digestive symptoms 2 years ago that are not there
now!!

Re: Lyc.
Want of vital heat is part of the "genius" of Lyc.; part & parcel of
scrawny, poor assimilation, poor digestion, dyspeptic, sallow, etc.
Seems odd that Joy's cases have tended toward ppl who felt themselves "hot"
rather than cold, but then, I'd not let that Rule Out an otherwise
well-indicated Rx.
