Cat with dental problems

We brought out cat into the vet to have her spayed and were told she
needed to have two teeth removed and to keep an eye on one tooth that
looked as though it may become bad. He recommended we buy a product
called Xylitol,which is a sweetener.... I am going to get Plaque off
if I can instead.Is this the main plaque remover for felines that is
recommended?

Oh yuck, I can't believe they actually think xylitol removes plaque.
It does not feed bacteria is all, unlike sugar.
But the cat is not designed to metabolize xylitol!!!

Other options:
Change to high protein (min 34%) dry food (eg ProPac dry "kitten"
food) and do not feed gooey canned cat food, which sticks to teeth
for bacteria to eat. Add some real meat and fish and fish oil to the
diet.
Pyrogenium 200C is a good preventive before and after dental work to
prevent harm when bacterial plaque inevitably gets into the blood
stream during dental work.
A chicken flavor feline toothpaste is available (Ceta or Cepa???)
whicbh you can use onj a piece of gauze, to rub the teeth and help
clean them. Some cats like it - some do not want their mouth messed
with.

For your cat's dental problems, try Fragaria Vesca (Wild Strawberry) in a low potency daily for some time - this was recommended to me by my homeopathic vet to remove accumulated plaque and tartar.
Also think about slowly converting your cat to a BARF diet (bones and raw food) which is much healthier for cats and dogs. The bones encourage their teeth to stay healthy. My cats now eat only raw meat with a few good quality organic biscuits as a treat from time to time. They won't look at vegetables, but love raw beef, raw beef mince, raw turkey, raw chicken wings (these are fine to give if NOT cooked - it's cooking which causes bones to splinter and become dangerous) raw lamb and lamb mince, plus tinned pilchards, sardines, cod or herring roes and tuna from time to time. No raw fish or raw pork as it's dangerous (carries parasites). I also sprinkle a very tiny amount of ground organic eggshells on their meat from time to time to ensure they are getting enough calcium. They have been on this diet for six years now, and are strong, healthy, playful with beautiful glossy fur.
It's probably not too late to convert to this kind of diet if you do it slowly - I had to wean mine off tinned food when I got them from a rescue centre at the age of one year.
Loiuse Hay has written a good book about this (available through Amazon, but I don't have the title any longer as I lent it to someone)
