perspiring hands - kidneys

Post by Phosphor »

Soroush,
is puffiness under eyes a symptom of build-up of toxins in kidney?

Not sure about puffiness *under* the eyes, but I can say from experience
that puffiness *above* the eyes is a tell tale sign/symptom of kidney
disfunction.

Dunno if it is a sign of "a symptom of build-up of toxins in kidney" per sé,
but probably a sign that toxins aren't being filtered properly (enough, or
fast enough...).

In fact, I had this symptom (along with others) that was noticed by my
childhood doc. He told my father that we ought to check my kidneys for
proper function --- when he noticed how puffy my upper eyelids were.

His suspicions were correct; my right kidney was slowly deteriorating ----at
that particular time it had only 80% function - and had shrunk, atrophied(?)
from about 14cms down to 9cms. Allopathic diagnosis was Chronic
Pylonephritis.

So, I think there could be some merit to what Soroush asked.

BTW, I remember always having had sweaty hands (and feet for that matter)
since I was quite small. Still have this symptom from time to time. (no
odour)

Could it be that she is right handed- and therefore uses that hand more -
making it sweat a bit more profusely than the other?

Or could it simply be a sign that her symptoms are Right Sided?
Best wishes,
Lisa

Thanks Lisa,

She IS right handed, but as I wrote before, this is the ONLY instance of
having the right palm sweat so much more than the rest of her. It does
not happen while at rest or at any other time.

The stranger symptom is that most of her symptoms are LEFT sided. This
is the only RIGHT sided symptom she reported with.

Thanks for the personal case history. It is always good to get first hand
reports.

The rubric I believe is (from synthesis)
FACE - SWELLING - Eyes - under
apis;3;k ars.;3;k kali-c.;3;k aur.;2;k calc-ar.;2;k fl-ac.;2;k kali-i.;2;k
raph.;2;bg1 raph.;2;vh/dg raph.;2;vh thlas.;2;bg1 thlas.;2;vh thlas.;2;vh/dg
apoc.;1;k bry.;1;k calc.;1;h cench.;1;k2 cinnb.;1;k iod.;1;k2 med.;1;k
merc.;1;k nat-c.;1;a1 nat-c.;1;h nit-ac.;1;k nux-v.;1;k olnd.;1;k phos.;1;k
puls.;1;k

Hope this is of use.

Whilst we are on this subject, what rubric do we use for atrophy of kidneys?

Soroush

By Jove!! I saw that and did not understand what on Earth it meant!!

THANK YOU!!!!
(I think there is a need to actually go through the rep and understand all

Dear all, I would suggest we do just that - well at least I did when I was
at college and my poor old Kent Rep. is riddled with pen and ink. Make it
your project to go through your favourite Rep. and make notes on all the
rubrics you don't understand. It is a great leaning curve and you will
surprise yourself several times. And a Websters of the time is really
useful. Happy reading! Best wishes, Joy. (very weary!)

interesting..could the under-eye puffiness be a sign of liver disfunction
[maybe this contributes to kidney disfunction in the long run]?

Hi Andrew
Here is some info I have on this issue

Generally accepted causes of swelling of the eyelids:
from local causes - Inflammatory affections of the eyes, Hay fever,
Angio-neurotic oedema, urticaria, conjunctivitis etc.
from general causes - Dropsy, chronic and acute nephritis, anaemia, arsenical
poisining, and Iodism.

If this is associated with oedema of the limbs and trunk, it is part of a
generalised oedema. In the oedema of renal disease, the swelling is most
obivious in the loose cellular tissues around the eyelids. The puffiness of the
eyelids due to renal disease is however, greater in the morning than in the
evening, and in this way may be distinguished from a smiliar condition due to
arsenical poisoning or whooping-cough............(Further on ) re chronic
oedema around the eyelids,, transient exacerbations occur with fatigue and
liver derangement.

Periorbital oedema is due to the tissues in this area having a loose connective
tissue matrix. This is subcutaneous oedema. Oedema as a result of renal
dysfunction or nephrotic syndrome is generally more severe than cardiac oedema
and affects all parts of the body equally, but may initially manifest in the
periorbital area. The oedema is characteristically soft and pitting.

Pathophys: Heavy proteinuria caused by increased permeability to plasma
proteins of the glomerular capillary walls, leads to depletion of serum albumin
levels below the compensatory synthetic abilities of the liver, with consequent
hypoalbuminemia and a reversed albumin-globulin ratio. The generalised edema is
in turn, the consequence of the loss of colloid osmotic pressure of the blood
and the accumulation of fluid in the interstitial tissues.

It must be noted that liver dysfunction can also lead to a decrease in plasma
proteins - eg., cirrhosis of the liver

Also, it is possible that if the swelling is only under the eye, it could be
due to herniated fat. It pushes weakened fascia in the eyelids forward,
producing bulges that involve the lower lids, the inner third of the upper
ones, or both. These bulges appear more often in elderly people but may affect
younger ones.

It is important to distinguish between edema and fat by doing a simple physical
examination.

Hope this helps

Regards
Robyn
